Baseball Trivia
Trivia question for the board. Please don't google the answer.
What is the only team to continuously hold a franchise since the beginning of the NL in 1876?
Follow up question: this team has been known by four different names throughout its history. What are these names?

Re: Baseball Trivia
I'm going to say Reds, or the Pirates.
Ooh... or the Cubs.
Haha does it count if I just name every team I can think of?

I'm with you Gary on one of yours. And if I don't miss my guess, they also hold the record for fewest team HRs in a season (0). And the most .... until the `1927 Yankees broke it.
Ooops. But I just read last night that there is a lineage longer than that, one which extends into the early days of the National Association.

Re: Baseball Trivia
I think Ben is thinking of the Chicago Cubs, which were also known as the Whales, Orphans and something else. But if memory serves me correctly, the Atlanta Braves can also trace a lineage back to the beginning of the National League, starting in Boston.

Only one guess allowed Gary!
Oh I totally meant to include a prize for the right answer.
Next trivia question will have a prewar card prize.

DING DING DING!!!
The Chicago Cubs, the only team to continuously hold a franchise dating from the beginning of the National League in 1876, have been known by 4 names throughout their history:
1902–present: Chicago Cubs
1898-1901: Chicago Orphans
1890-1897: Chicago Colts
1870-1871, 1874-1889: Chicago White Stockings

Ben, what about the Braves? Is this correct?

Yes, I'm pretty sure the Braves have held a franchise dating back to 1876. The difference is that the Cubs franchise always remained in Chicago, while the Braves moved from Boston to Milwaukee to Atlanta.
