I'm not very knowledgeable regarding the set Lee, but my understanding is that the M101-4 was a 1916 issue. Gandil has no M101-5 counterpart. The card is blank backed.
Definitely some nice images in this thread.

Wow nice cards everyone! Love the Gandil Cycle 460 Lee.
That Mulligan has PSA 9 or 10 written all over it (insert wink here)!

Nice solid T206s. I will have a few more pickups once they arrive.

Thanks
His name is misspelled on most of his Exhibits
You would think SGC would catch these mistakes

Wow Chris first time I've seen that pose as well. I have a feeling you've got a super duper OJ rarity on your hands there, great pickup!
Re: April 2012 Pickups...BASEBALL
Never seen it either. Great, great pick-up!

another vote for never having seen it. And Mutrie isn't exactly unknown player/manager either. So that's a huge plus.
Re: April 2012 Pickups...BASEBALL
Chris, a N172 manager subset would be a fun (and completable) goal especially since you already have the Wright out of the way.
Would be a sight to see if they all had strong images.

Fantastic contrast on that image!
According to Miller and Masson's OJ book, there are three poses of "Truthful Jim" Mutrie - namely,
- 336-1 Portrait, bard head, looking/L
- 336-2 Seated, bowler hat in R/hand
- 336-3 Standing, bowler hat on head
The interesting thing to me is that your portrait is slightly different than the one in the book. Not only is the a slight difference in the Old Judge advertisement, but the name plate is also slightly different. The one in the book spells out New York instead of abbreviating it. So many different nuances in OJs!
Here is the image from the book. It's a must have for any serious OJ collector.
Edited to note that the book version shows writing on his right shoulder. Looking under a loop, it says "Copyright ____ Goodwin & Co ____" (I can't make out the underlined parts, but it is most likely a year.)

Re: April 2012 Pickups...BASEBALL
Great info Brian - I hadn't checked the card against my copy of the OJ book.
I guess this card can be considered a new variation - there are three distinct differences when compared to the copy in the Miller/Masson book. The nameplate difference, the abbreviation of "New York" and my copy of the card has the copyright info scratched out on the negative.
I don't know if it makes my card any more valuable per se, but it is amazing to find a new variation in the Old Judge set...

Come on Chris, you are being too humble. You know OJs well enough that variations are huge for that handful that are working on a master set. You now have a 'must have' card. Could be great trade bait.

Well if you say so Jay - I can't necessarily disagree with your assessment.

I don't think that those types of variations make the card more valuable - it is fairly normal for n172's to vary like that. Nevertheless, it seems to be at the very least a scarce pose and rarely seen for auction. Nice contrast, too.
