very cool that you've abandoned that silly home improvement plan and back to buying cards.
LOL.....I wish Quan. That was the last of my private stash. I already had it in the budget to go after that T216 Bescher (planned it for almost 3 months).
fisherboy7 wrote:Eric, 34 T216's is impressive. Like others have said, they're great cards to hunt for because they're just tough enough to find without being impossible. It's fun watching you assemble your hoard!
Thanks Ben. Sometimes I go months without finding one. Other months I can come up with a couple. Until these last two (Cy Young and Bescher) I had gone almost 3 months without a T216 pickup.

Thanks Brian. It helps when Maryland is only one state below (I can't really count Delaware since traveling on I95 you only go through about 10 miles of DE.

Re: April Pickups
Been working on a T206 HOF portrait set for about 6 months. To qualify cards must look EX+ to Nm for their grade.
You can save alot of doe by waiting for mid grade examples to pop up with just that one teeny flaw that makes them
much more affordable compared to higher graded examples. Although Sir Hal isn't a hall of famer he qualifies in my book
to be included in my sub set. Just in & she's a beauty!!!

hey, that's all that matters...having fun!
sometimes i'd just buy a box of '89 topps and start ripping up the packs looking for gregg jefferies "future star" cards (i never got one as a kid). awesome time remembering way back when i first got those "record breakers" or "topps all-stars" inserts. don't even get me started on the donruss...

Re: April Pickups
very nice matty for the grade. that's probably a old gold sticker SGC card. i've noticed recent SGC grades are about on par with PSA (overgraded).

Thanks for the compliment. It does have a gold SGC label on the back. I suppose whether or not it is accurately graded is always debatable. I am not bothered by its grade and don't anticipate resubmitting it. (I think the Matty is probably accurately graded, FWIW.) I am just grateful to add it due to its eye appeal.
It is interesting to me that you perceive a recent overgraded trend. I just went back to see if I agree with your assessment and found quite the contrary on the (admittedly) small sample that I looked at. For example, I looked at this card (below), which is the more recently graded (with SGC embossing on the back as opposed to the gold label) and feel that it is not only not overgraded, but that it is undergraded. (No pinholes or back paper loss that I can see.) Whether or not it could ever get "bumped" is a different discussion, but suffice it to say that I didn't find the same "recent = overgraded" correlation in this and other SGC slabs. I'm sure we can all cite isolated examples of poorly graded cards from each of the TPGs... I personally just haven't noticed a trend towards overgrading from SGC. (Though I wish I had for some of my cards! )

Re: April Pickups
brian,
i suspect the front cat scratches paper loss(?) could be the cause of the low grade. of course if it's one card you want to be undergraded it's the e103 wagner. probably saved you 1.5-2k. fwiw i think urs should be at least a 20 and i'd take your sgc10 over the 30 in REA right now.
generally with a few exceptions SGC grading has eased up at least .5 grade the last 1-2 years imo.

What a beautiful card Blair! That is one (color/player combo that is very high on my list). I just missed out on the SGC 10 on ebay a couple weeks ago....but picked up a Kotton as a result of me missing out, so it all worked out.
