T202 Center Fold Lines

Post by bowlingshoeguy on Sat May 30, 2009 7:00 am

I always found it interesting that some of the T202s have a center fold line, definately not a crease. It is curious that they would have the considering that they fit the package with the end panels folded. Did Hassan issue another card (non-sport) with the same size?

T202 Center Fold Lines

Post by nolemmings on Sun May 31, 2009 1:41 am

So Lee you're saying that's a factory fold line instead of some kid just carefully folding it. Could you show some others please/

On a kindof related topic, how come some T202s have center "notches" when they have not been folded?

That example the best one I have the rest do not show up in scans. What is odd is that I have some that only have a partial fold line in them. I have not seen many but they are definately fold lines and not creases, the cards are still rigid in the middle.

As far as the center notch I have no great theory, I do know that the cards were cut after the ends had been folded as evidenced by angle cuts the match up when folding the end panels. Another oddity with the angle cut is that the bottom can be straight with the top being miscut but have rarely seen a bottom angle cut. This is also a great way to find out if a T202 is trimmed by folding over the end panels and see if they match up top to bottom. Any theories would be welcome.

T202 Center Fold Lines

Post by nolemmings on Tue Jun 09, 2009 4:56 pm

Lee, I won my first t202 with the center fold lines--not that I was bidding on it for that reason; in fact, I didn't even notice it.

The line is almost imperceptible on the back--you have to hold the card at an angle to get a glimpse--and is not exactly prominent on the front either, but it is there. Also, the card has center notches that line up with the fold line (the black speck on the bottom border is not a notch or a fleck of the SGC gasket-it is a print mark not unlike the one above the sliding player's shin).

Anywyay, the fold line was either missed by SGC or they were completely forgiving of it, unlike the m101-4s.

I own about 200 T202s and have seen very few with the line. The Paskert is the most obvious that I have seen. As far as grading I don't know how they can down grade for a factory addition such as this. Nice card, I think that card is the second one I added to my T202 collection. It would be nice if we could get some more examples of T202s with the line to see if there is any consistency, say all are Red factory 30 back.
