Position Eligibility
A quick note about position eligibility because it came up in a prior discussion. If there's a question about a player's eligibility, we'll need a way of deciding. Here is what I propose:
If a player has played 25% or more of their career games at a particular position, they are eligible to play that position in our league. This seems to be a fair way of handling it. Hopefully that fits in with the sim as well.
If you are wondering about a particular player's eligibility, you can go to their profile on baseball-reference.com under their fielding stats and see how many games they've played at various positions. Take the following player for example:
This player has played at a number of positions over their career, but will only be eligible at 1B in our league because that's where they played over 85% of their games. Make sense?

Re: Position Eligibility
Shouldn't the OF slots just be OF? Aside from Willie Mays, Barry Bonds and Tim Raines, I couldn't tell you which outfield slot most OFers played

That works. If you know which OF position the player played, put 'em there. Otherwise, they can go into any of the slots.
Re: Position Eligibility
Consider John Ward position/games:
SS 826
2B 491
P* 292
OF 215
3B 46
Hurled the second perfect game in NL history. 164 wins, 2.10 ERA, .617 winning percentage. According to the 25% rule, he can not pitch. Perhaps what we want is a value which will not allow Foxx to catch, while Ward can pitch? Or maybe I am off in my assessment of what we want.

Ward may not have played 25% of his games as a pitcher, but I think we can make a exception in this case since he was so accomplished at that position. If you want to play him at SP Gil, I think that would be fine (as long as others are ok with it).

I knew you were gonna say that Jay! If you want to take Ruth's bat out of your lineup, be my guest
Re: Position Eligibility
Rosters can be set so that a pitcher on his days off plays in the field. So the Babe and Ward can play the field and then take their turn on the mound every 4th or 5th day. Given Ruth's pitching numbers, I wouldn't slot him for more than spot starts.

Re: Position Eligibility
I hope you guys are tongue in cheek on that. Neither Ward nor Ruth should be allowed to pitch, unless there's some sort of emergency situation allowed by the Sim where you're in the 23rd inning or something and the staff is spent.

Re: Position Eligibility
Todd is probably right here.
Just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting that Ward should be able to play multiple positions. The reason I was open to Ward playing SP is because he's very close to the 25% minimum, so if Gil wanted to having him pitch exclusively, that might be ok. But given Todd's objection, probably not then.
Ruth on the other hand is nowhere close to the 25% requirement, so I highly doubt an exception should be made in Ruth's case.

Re: Position Eligibility
Given Ruth's numbers pitching and level talent we are dealing with in this draft, Ruth would never see the light of day on my pitching staff. Smoltz would be getting spot starts before Ruth would.

could you check on Gil's pick
just want to make sure Will White qualifies, as he spent a bunch of time in the American Association, which, even though largely considered a legitimate major league, may not have stats count in SIM.

Monte Ward worked out well for us, appearing in 74 games as a pitcher, and logging 134 At Bats, primarilly as a shortstop. I'm hoping to call him back this season. But I also request two other outfielder/1st basemen who have pitching capability which I'd like to draw upon as well:
Foutz - .276BA, .378 S%; 147 Wins, .690 Pct.
Position Total
1B 595
OF 320
P 251
SS 1

Caruthers - .282BA, .400 S%; 218 Wins, .688 Pct.
Position Total
OF 366
P 340
1B 13
2B 9
Shouldn't these two be considered as utility players with pitching as one of their positions?
