Wonder if he still has all the Gehrig stuff I sold him.

It sort of gives you a glimpse into the life he used to live if you go to the auction website and look at the stuff. So much money and such poor taste in furniture, belongings, etc. Just a bunch of tacky stuff.

Agreed, JAmie...but he did manage to save around 50 mil of his earnings before he decided to start a video game co...what a moron?!?! Isn't 50 mil enough to live forever on and still leave a huge legacy for your family?!?!

Absolutely.  Couldn't agree more.  The trappings of greed, I guess.  Shilling was pretty much a major right-wing @sshole and I think that he bought into his own credo about being an uber-capitalist.  Call it schadenfreude but I don't mind watching his downfall.

pride was probably his downfall. all athletes have big ego, you just gotta have that to survive the competitive nature of professional sports...and to be the very best in that field. schilling probably believed he could replicate that success in another field. i don't think he started out meaning to defraud ri, he just got in way over his head!...and money can't buy you class or taste (not that i'm familiar with any of the 3).

Pride/arrogance was definitely a major problem. Just because you can throw a 90+ mph fastball doesn't mean you can succeed in business. I'm not against starting a business, but just find a way to manage risk. But I also think that his ideology played a major role in his business decisions. If you think people aren't guided by ideology, pick up a newspaper...

So sad for Schill. Let me break out my violin.
