Should this trade be allowed?
A trade been accepted where Luke Appling is being traded for Cy Young and Johnny Bench. I'm inclined to so NO to it. If 5 people say NO, then the trade is nixed. Please post here so that we can see who voted. There is now way to restrict who votes in a poll so a written vote is the only way to ensure only participants are voting. I'll update the the count when possible.

Re: Should this trade be allowed?
I think this guy believes his team is gonna lose this year, so he is just hooking up the guys in the league whom he likes by handing them ace pitchers for late draft picks.

Re: Should this trade be allowed?
m-mac first contacted me a few days ago about potential trades. like i told him i would prefer to go the non-trading route as i felt with over 140 years of history there should be enough players for everyone. when mike presented me with the offer for cy young before i picked i couldn't say no. he says he wanted to field a speedy team as a strategy.
we'd never talked before a few days ago and imo i'm as likeable as beet soup so i don't think the favortism angle is in play here. i'll happily go back to picking my guy again. didn't have a use for bench and while cy young is a good pitcher my strategy has always been i don't necessarily need them to compete. i'm more about matchups and my bullpen is in play alot more than starters.

Re: Should this trade be allowed?
I need a nap. I do not care to tell what has been stated in the PM in regards to what was offered and when. The timing and specifics are not relevant. However, I would like to assure everyone that I know no one here, and I aim to win this league no matter how unpredictable is the sim. While this league is for fun, I am very serious about general managing an imaginery club of men to the championship. I believe I improved my club with these two trades. I also believe that the two other clubs benefited as well and are better as a result. I will dump underachievers and I will trade for players if they appear to be suited for the style of play I seek.
Vote "yay," and if you can, vote twice, "yay."
Quan, If you want to reverse the trade, I am fine with your desire. To everyone else, don't be surprised if I pick up another catcher or two or even a starter, whether Bench & Young are on the roster or not.

I say we trade after the draft only. Simplify a little and keeps the draft flowing.

Re: Should this trade be allowed?
in my honest assessment, i think the trade is very lopsided in my favor (that's why i jumped on it when i'm anti-trade). cy young had some monster years stat-wise and would be a big improvement over any starting pitcher i will draft now.
i will also say i'm really against allowing trades in this FRIENDLY league. it sets up backdoor (pm) dealings and cause problems just like this. everyone should be happy with the players and teams they draft, and build a strategy and stadium to suit those players. it shouldn't be this complicated.

Amazingly, my brother makes sense. Let's save anymore trades for after the end of the draft.
Re: Should this trade be allowed?
mike pm'ed to say jay will approve the trade if i return player....then of course johnny bench is going back to the stars. please confirm if this is the case or what the ruling is.

I like Lee's idea better. Save the trades for after the draft so things can move along. While Appling for Young is still lopsided I can live with it. I know he's not trying to stack anyone's team. Besides, Q needs all the help he can get to unseat me
Re: Should this trade be allowed?
I agree let's at least wait until after the draft has finished.
I can't prevent someone from being illogical, or truly know what someone's motives are, but ultimately there needs to be some sort of competitive balance.
He just made two trades where he gave away high draft picks (Nichols, Bench, Young) for late round picks. It is not the fault of his trading partners, but both trades ought to be reversed. It is only for fairness, especially to the other teams in the west division, who will now have to be facing Nichols and Young atop of everyone else who was drafted.
I understand it is just for fun, and there are some other snafu's, like the sim ending in 2006. But ultimately, sometimes people just need to be saved from themselves. And since he passed up an offer of Piazza, an 11th, and a 16th for the same exact two players, I can tell you, something fishy is going on here. And that is all that I've got to say.

Re: Should this trade be allowed?
I pm'd with Andrew and he explained to me that Nichols and Ott are about equal value in this game. So that trade is cool if that is the case. But I don't even think Young for Appling straight up should go through (sorry, Quan). That is a first round pick for a fourteenth rounder. Even a child wouldn't make that trade.

Re: Should this trade be allowed?
ok, may just be the optimism that the wine brought...but i'm gonna go with the assumption that the appling for cy young went through...and i just have to take bench off my team. i wouldn't have drafted appling, if not i want some compensation from the league
