I agree, and I always liked Melky. No one is perfect in this world, but we can take responsibility for our mistakes and do the right thing to rectify them. Bravo to Melky.

Agreed! A typical homegrown "yankee" move!!!!! Class act! I was upset when the yanks traded the melk-man away...but soon got over it!!!!!!!

Sounds like he took some good advice, but kind of a no-brainer right? I lost enough respect for him with the lying and fake website stuff to really care....

c'mon...it's better than the way most have responded...or not responded when they got caught!

he tried everything possible to mask the cheating. this is just a pr move to change his image when it comes to contract time in the offseason. if he thought the batting title would ensure him more money he would've kept it.

It's definitely about the money, but I still like Melky.

Even if it wasn't, it shows he's a whole lot smarter and classier than just about everyone that has been busted.
Re: Melky a class act
Smarter certainly.
Most likely this is a man due for the first big payday of his life and he and his agent are doing damage control and generating positive PR.
And it's working.

Given that the HOF is a bit bigger deal than a huge payday, you'd think some of these other players would have been smarter about the situation.

These players may feel differently. Everyone has their own motivations. I remember reading an interview with Carmello Anthony a while ago. He was asked if he would rather be a star on a losing team or a role player on a championship team. He said he would rather be the star.
The pressure to perform must be extraordinary. I thought Chris Rock stated it pretty succinctly in Ken Burns 10th Inning. He said something to the effect that if someone could take a pill to perform better at work and make millions on top of it, most people would do it. I've got to agree with him.
I personally feel that the confirmed PED users shouldn't be in the HOF, but I think some of them will be inducted eventually.
Returning to the topic at hand, I think you guys are spot on...this was a marketing move by Melky.

i think most of these guys who come from dirt poor countries with no history of the game could give a rat's ass about world series or the hof. it's mostly about the money.

I think they still want those things but of course it's the money first, and understandably. It would be for anyone in that situation.
