Other than T206, which T set do you like most & why?
All things considered, which T set (other than T206) do you like most, and why?
Not an easy decision, but I went with the T204 Ramlys because of the beautiful unique design. The one thing lacking is player content. Would have been better if there was a Cobb, Wagner, Lajoie, Matty, and Young in the set (among others). But interest in the TTT backs and Square Frame variations work in its favor.
Honorable mention goes to T214/5 sets. There's just so much intrigue surrounding those sets. Possibly incomplete checklists for all 3, as well as unknown variation possibilities are still out there.

I went with T3 because of the amazing color and images.

I picked the T211 Red Suns, b/c, being a back collector, this is one of the most beautiful backs ever created on a Vintage Card.

T205s Love the gold boarders and gaudy design. T3 was a close second with its great images, colors and backgrounds.

I love the T216's. The fact that they came out of New Orleans, which resulted in very few good examples. I love the back types and the 3 type variations. The differences in card stocks. The vibrant colors, and the rarity. Just so much cool stuff about this set.

rman you're a total showoff! awesome card...we need a new poll to see which would you prefer, victory cobb or cobb/cobb back?
as for the t sets i voted t204s. i like the t216s but they're too scarce and elitist for me and the t3 turkeys are huge!

I picked T216 because of rarity and the Baltimore players in the set.

Just curious guys which would you find more scarce...T208 or T214...IMO I think T208's are a bit harder to find.
Re: Other than T206, which T set do you like most & why?
Definitely T208's. I have only ever owned one common from this set (and I was offered so much more for it than I paid at the time, that I shipped it out as soon the day it arrived). This was about ten years ago or so. I would still love a T208 Mack, but I believe one in FR/GD condition would go over $20k in an auction if it appeared, so that card is about out of my price range.

T214's are very very scarce, but I agree with you; T208 Firesides are on another level. Quite possibly the scarcest of all T sets.
Re: Other than T206, which T set do you like most & why?
Sacralidge. T231 Fans is the scarest. Seriously, I don't even consider the t231 Fan card a legimate set. Sorry, but in my book, the term set implies that there is more than one card to collect. In this case, there isn't even a second example known to exist.
It's a neat piece, but it certainly isn't a set and until more examples come to light, it shouldn't be considered anything other than an oddity.

Agreed Jay. When considering the scarcest T set, T231 crossed my mind but I don't consider it a legit "set" either for the reasons you stated.
T4 Obak Premiums are up there as well, but I'd still rank them behind T208 in terms of scarcity.

Re: Other than T206, which T set do you like most & why?
Jay, I have to disagree with you on this one - there are at LEAST THREE KNOWN examples of T231 Fan's cards. They were sent in for prizes (or an attempt at a prize if your player was batting champion or something like that). This accounts for their rarity.
I have thought in the past of finding exactly where the factory was that printed these cards and more info on the company (in VA). I could then put ads in newspapers in these areas for these cards. I would guess that some employees families still would have the cards that were sent in for this promotion - maybe even a "Bushel Basket Full", as we would say here in the Hills! One might even find some examples from people's families who smoked this brand and didn't send in the cards also.
In all honesty, I truly believe someone in the Hobby is setting on multiple examples of T231's - maybe even the person (or their family) the old Xerox copy of Bigbee came from.

Are there really three known examples Scott? We know of the Baker and the xeroxed Bigbee. What's the 3rd?
Re: Other than T206, which T set do you like most & why?
Yes there is Ben - some guy that has set up near the door of the National for several years acquired one at some point. He is very secretive about this card, but did state it was a common player (I forget the name).

Triple Folders!
- unique design - come on, the cards stand up! they fold over the center panel
they have two players on each card with a full description and image of each
they have an action panel with full description of the play and situation
Its like three cards for the price of one, and a lot of people collect them like that
you'd have to be crazy to buy anything else !!

Scott, that's news to me. No disrepect meant towards you, but until I hear that from someone like Macrae or Lifson, I really doubt they exist. No matter how secretive someone tries to be about discovering a new t231, word will get out and I've never heard this info until you just mentioned it.
Do you honestly believe the guy at the front door could actually be quiet about something like that? Hell, it would plastered all over the cover of SCD and he'd be milking it for everything possible.
Jay

The T231 Scott mentioned above is not a recent find but has been part of the owner’s collection for sometime, I believe. The person has an outstanding collection; he’s a true old-timer. I am sure he has the card; I also doubt that there are only three existing examples. Only time will tell, but I have a hard time believing that there aren’t some really old school collectors with examples in their collections

I went with T214/15 because I really like the Red Cross design and the rarity of both series. Teasing scarcity and back design out of the equation, I'd probably go with T204's as the most striking set.
