are there any 20's color issues? If so I want to see some. Why are there so few issued?

Re: 20's Color issues
During the 1920s there was a prohibition on color printing. It was finally repealed when FDR became President.
All of the color printing businesses went underground and were instead done by organized crime.
It was a very dark time (literarly) for the printing business.

What was the reasoning for banning color printing? Was there alcohol in it and people drinking it?
Were the 33 Goudey's then the first color series?

Re: 20's Color issues
Good thread Lee. Most really are all black and white. Never thought about as just a 20s thing.
Lections have a bit of color, but not much. I think maybe this explains why some retailers/advertisers were stamping the backs of E121s and other issues around the time.

20's Exhibits have 1 or 2 colors on them but none had full color.

Wow, that's a fascinating fact I never knew or ever really heard about. Banning color from printing. Kind of crazy

Gentlemen, your legs have been pulled--good one Chris. Of course there was no ban on color printing.
The more puzzling question for me is why there weren't more card sets period. This was not only the roaring twenties in general, but it was the decade when Ruth ushered in the home run frenzy and the dead ball era well, died. Yet all we see after 1922 for the most part is basically one card manufacturer--the Exhibit Supply Co.--until the end of the decade. Seems like lots of opportunities to promote products were missed during the bulk of that decade.

Yep. Blame president Warren Harding for the color ban; only thought he looked good in B&W or sepia photos...
Re: 20's Color issues
i say it was because americans were more health-conscious in the 20s so they cut back on smoking and ate less chocolate.
