T216 Kottons
As many of you know, T216's are the main card type that I collect.
Today I was doing a search for T216's and I came across something on PSA's website from a past auction (2006), where 97 different T216 Kottons were auctioned off as a lot and sold for $23,152.20. This just amazes me that they went for so cheap. Does anyone remember this lot?
T216 AUCTION LINK
I wish I had collected during that time (I started in January 2007) because I would have taken a loan out to buy this lot. Today, this lot would fetch probably 3x that amount if not more.
Most card sets have declined heavily in value since 2006, but why have Kottons gone the other way? What other cards have defied the market?
Sorry to ramble on about nothing, but I was just floored when I saw the final hammer price. That will NEVER happen again.

Re: T216 Kottons
Going back over the list is interesting.
I own a Miller/fielding (St. Louis) in an SGC 30 holder. In the lot offered back in 2006, there were 2 of those offered up. Both were ungraded at the time, so I don't know if mine is one of the ones from that find or not. And I know of only one other one out there. It doesn't show up in the population report, but it is in the one and only SGC registered set of T216s. It is an SGC 40. I wonder if that SGC 40 was also from this lot?
I love everything about this set, but it's a daunting task.....that's for sure.

Re: T216 Kottons
The price may seem check today, but back then, that may have been a strong price. As you know, Kotton's don't carry the glamour of some of the other rare sets like t215 Pirates, etc. I remember around 2002 a near complete set (missing 4 cards) of e107s was up for auction. If I remember correctly it sold for a little over $30k. I was trying hard to get some people together to buy the thing but with no luck. I'm sure they are all wishing they had listened to me

It's funny how some sets/cards rise so fast in value from year to year. Just like Jay said about the E107 group. All it takes is a few new collectors to the set/cards then you get bidding wars.
I think the T216's will keep going up in value since you do have more and more back collectors which will make the tough T216 cards prized if in time we see people flock to them.
Eric, don't sell them until you see crazy prices then you might want to unload them. What goes up usually falls just as hard.

Wow Jay....30K for almost a complete set. That's crazy! Too bad you couldn't get a group together for that, you were right on the money with that one.

It seems as though T216's are starting to gather a small following. I know of two other collectors that are trying to work on the set, which makes it tough, since these cards come up so infrequently.
I agree with you Mark, that the upwards trend will continue with these cards. As far as selling them.....that won't happen (unless I get an unreal offer). This is the only set that I've been pretty die hard about. I've sold off one card (that wasn't a dupe), only to buy it back 4 months later.

Re: T216 Kottons
I recall a T216 Mino Speaker in really nice shape (at least vgex) that sold on ebay several years ago. I don't think it cracked the $2000 barrier. Seemed like a great deal even then. Anyone have a record or even a recollection of that auction? Not often you see HOFers with Mino backs in nice shape offered for sale...

Yep....I was just going to say that. A very nice price in 2007.

Re: T216 Kottons
I believe I was underbidder on that Kotton lot.
I won the Mino Speaker, but have since sold it.

Yeah, but I think it will make a kid pretty happy someday once he gets old enough to enjoy it.
