Re: Have willards V100, V122 and V137 sets for sale
Looks like I may try selling with Sott Brockelman down in Texas
at BL Aucions.
He was recommended by Robert from REA as a good alternative.
I am going to overnight my V122 cards to him next week after
I ponder a few more questions. Any other questions
I should ask that I have over looked?
This is probably the most money I'll ever come across, without
getting it the hard way, working. Scot also suggested Auctioning all 3 sets, my
V100, V122 and V137. This would help create more interest
or a frenzy for this Kanuk stuff. Once one package gets to him
then I will mail the other two. Overnight UPS is what he suggested.
Thanks for aiming me in the right direction you guys. I have
bookmarked your forum and will keep in touch. Scot is going
to have the "critical" cards Graded for me at no cost, they also
have no fee for selling. I guess they charge the buyer a %
or a fee. In the end he mails me a cheque for the amount the
Auction finished at. He assured me I would get more than
3K for my 122 set

scott is very knowledgeable, but B&L might have a smaller list of bidders than other auction houses. these are niche sets imo and the more eyeballs the better...i'd go with a medium auction house like Huggins & Scott and the like.

Well I don't know what to do. These things are harder to
sell than ice cubes to an Eskimo. Too scared to mail/courier
to an Auction house as there is non to very little insurance
available. I could drive them to REA next year and personally
deliver them, it's only 7-8 hours away. So until after
Christmas I think I'll just park them. I got too much static
and my friends didn't feel comfortable with me sending them
in the Mail either. I think I'll just stick to restoring Vintage
Motorcycles, these Vintage Cards are killing me
All you guy's have a great Christmas and all the best in the
New Year too. Heres my latest project, my 1972 Kawasaki
500 triple Racer. It was "Scrap" when I found it, 5 years
later it's a real head turner, and fast too!

Check with REA about cash up front for the 2011 auction on your cards. They do it for the current auction 2010, they may be willing to do it for 2011.

About insurance, i never understood why some places won't allow you to buy insurance.
I would ship them UPS worldwide, they must allow you to buy insurance?!?!?

I think all the major auction houses insurance will cover what is shipped to them. I'd talk to Rob at REA first. Personally, I would never do business with B and L auctions. They and Legendary are the only auction houses I would never consider using or even bidding on their items.

Re: Have willards V100, V122 and V137 sets for sale
Don, my advice is to wait, bring them to the May show in Toronto. A few auction houses set up, I would talk to them and see who you feel the most comfortable with. I would also take them to a few dealers and see what kind of cash deal you can negotiate. If you do it either of these two ways you won't need to worry about shipping the cards. The cards you have are very collectible (as you know) and I think you will do well whichever route you decide. If you wish I would be happy to make some introductions for you at the show.

thanks , got a link to the T.O. show pro9?
I have had a total change of plans too. REA is Autioning a set in the next
auction. I am going to wait until I see what happens to a "similar" set that
is incomplete also. So I am taking a break from cards till next year. I told
my wife that maybe we'll just drive the cards to REA and make a week in
NJ/NY or where ever. That solves my shipping issues just fine. I got a feeling
these old cards would fetch a bit more if I show a little more patience.
The Toronto show is just the perfect educational experience I need too.
I can take all of them with me, I got a couple hundred old movie cards
too, some real big silver screen names. Probably not as "monetarily desireable"
but still real old, 1923ish. I even got "Chicken" cards. Cards
with chickens on them, they must be worth millions eh!! LOL
This forum is a good one, I have joined others but I always seem
to move on looking for more. But I have kinda set up camp here now.
Thanks for having me.
Great info and the best advise so far. I'll be around a bit but now
I can take a break and do a little cross country snowmobiling very
soon!!

I think patience is a good approach given your situation, Don. If there's no pressing need to sell right away, might as well give it some time and maximize your return. Glad that the forum could be of assistance to you
Re: Have willards V100, V122 and V137 sets for sale
Waiting is a good thing, especially give the current economy. In a year, things should be much better with more people willing to spend more money cards.

I live 20 - 30 minutes from REA & SGC (grew up a few towns over from REA in the opposite direction of SGC). If you make the trek to the great State of NJ post here or pm me and I'll tell you the best (or what I consider best) restaurants, bars, tourism, entertainment, etc to your taste. Don't waste your time in NYC, we need your tax dollars more than they do. Both areas have great restaurants. If you consign to anyone other than REA, use JustCollect on Ebay. They are from NJ also and we'll get the taxes from that too.

Good to know, maybe we can hook up when we're down.
Doubt I'd step foot in NYC, I'm a hick out here in the tiny town of
Paris Ontario, population "Growing".
Cities scare me, I don't like them at all anymore.
When I was young Toronto didn't bother me but that place
is an infested hole now too. I'd rather spend my money in a small NJ town
than Toronto any day of the year. Where is REA, downtown Newark?

REA is located in Watchung, NJ. A diverse suburb bisected by Route 22 and conveniently located by Interstate 78 and the Garden State Parkway the NJ Turnpike. How to big box retailers such as Best Buy, Target & Home Depot, Watchung is also home to the Watchung Reservation. This Reservation supports biking, hiking, fishing and other outdoor events suitable for families, couples or individuals looking to just get-away. (Personally my mountain bike popped both its tires there once and it was a 12 mile walk home. A few blocks from my house, a guy washing his car asked, "Where you in the Reservation?" I said yes. He said if he had know I lived by him, he would have given me a ride as he passed me an hour ago.)
Big cities scare you? When coming to NJ check out Hunterdon County. This bucolic county is one of the nation's wealthiest areas but has affordable tourism at all corners. Home to a beach (yes a beach located 70 miles from the famed NJ Shore), leaf peep your way from antique store to antique store while stopping along one of the famed river restaurants for a quick and scenic meal or drink. Visit numerous museums, walk the downtowns of historic Flemington and Lambertville or experience agri-tourism at its finest. Want to learn more? Check often http://www.hunterdontourism.org/ or
http://www.hunterdon-chamber.org/ to find continuously updated local events and destinations.
Mayor or governor? Nope. Work closely with local governments though. This is the type of work that I do:

Sounds like my kind of town. I love American History. A little
more colourful than our Canadian history. I live in what has become a
tourist town too. Paris for such a "young town" has some cool history.
Most think the phone was invented in Canada, but I know better. Phone
was invented in USA...but the first successful call long distance was made
in Brantford to downtown Paris (about 10 miles). Niagara on the Lake was known
as Newark as well. But after we whopped A$$ on the Yanks in the war
of 1812 they changed it's name to Nia on the Lake. Looking forward
to my summer vacation already, but it's snow here so I need to enjoy
each season to it's fullest. I must be a freak as I love winter, love the
cold....guess I'll never grow up, I'm a 48 yr old kid at heart.

Hey Wiggum, where in Jersey do you live? I'm in Plainfield.
As far as small towns.....in central Jersey....they don't exist. It's just large population after large population, with no real break between towns and cities. At least IMO.

Actually that's not true, NY state's population is about 20mm and Canada's is slightly over 30mm. California has more people, though.

Re: Have willards V100, V122 and V137 sets for sale
I gave away my V100's to my younger brother. He lost his job and is really
struggling. His wife just beat breast cancer too. Hard luck for John and Michelle.
So I gave my 100's to him to do with as he pleases. I suggested he use them
for sending his kids to College one day. My wife is as mad as hell, but I felt I did
the right thing. These things have caused a lot of grief to the greedy buggers
in my family that figured that each deserved to get them. I need the money
too but I feel bad for my bro's kids, and those two kids are worth it too me.
Anyway I'll save the rest and try RE next year to sell my V122's, then my V137's.
Thanks for all your help here guy's and Happy New Year
