Re: E100 white background?
First instinct says it is not an e100, but not sure what it is either. Almost looks like it was cut from something.

I'm far from an expert, but
I don't think its an e100. I guess the type 2s are blank backed---who knows what back this one may have had before it was glued---but the cropping of the photo seems way too big, and of course the white background is not known, is it? Would this have been a borderless card but for the trim?

Re: E100 white background?
The font of the lettering certainly appears to be consisitant with an E100. I'm not sure this is a "white background", but perhaps it's some form of printer's scrap or cut from an ad piece? Certainly a neat find either way.
Ben, you may want to direct Mark MaCrae to this thread. He may have a better idea as to what this is.

Very neat Ben, it is not a Type II since the font and cropping corresponds to a trimmed Type I. Do you have the dimensions? Also it looks to me like a blank back instead of a skinned back. I go with proof/ad piece.

Hey Dan apparently it measures 2 1/2 x 1 1/4, check out the link in the text of my first post. I agree with the printer scrap explanation.
Re: E100 white background?
According to Old Cardboard the e100s are 1-1/2 x 2-3/4 so it seems these are about the same size.

Re: E100 white background?
I dunno.
There appears to be no attempt at a border in the "white background".
Although the card's image similarities are indisputable, it does not appear to be from the same set to me (because of the line directly extending from hither to yon.)

Gotta give it to the Riddler on that one. I first thought it was a simply a trimmed error card (missing one color). After considering the border more and looking at his left hand, you should see at least a hint of the border either at that location or below it where the card appears a bid wider. The font, its size and placement, as well as the image are identical. Quite an interesting card.

Agreed. Quite an interesting card.
But even more importently, Brian: agreed - give the Riddler some credit!
People are thinking that I'm only here for the groupies, and other Full Count perks. But actually as you insightfully recognize, Brian, I have a keen awareness of (what was that again?), and a thourough understanding of those factors which consitute elements in the overall picture of considerations applicable to the fostering so desperatedly needed.

Some strong prices realized here. $600+ for this example and another that was listed a few days later. Neat discovery, I wonder if it will lead to additional knowledge of the E100 set (I guess it kind of has already).
Re: E100 white background?
It has drawn e100 money here.
Wish I knew why.

Re: E100 white background?
Though I did not talk to Mark Macrae about this card I have never heard of a reference to printer's scraps of e100s. I would guess the bidders wanted an example for their collection. The winning bidder and the underbidder were the same on both cards. One of them has an extensive collection and likes different cards, the other collects early PCL including Bishops.

Re: E100 white background?
Leon has lots of early PCL cards. I think he probably picked these up in the hopes of them turning out to be a new type.
Re: E100 white background?
Sorry for my poor attempt at humor, he has many very nice PCL cards.
It is possible he thought these were a new type, but all the data in my mind always pointed to printers scraps. I think the auction results also show that. If they were a new type they would have gone for well more than $600, and they would have been in a major auction house.

Re: E100 white background?
I think Leon has now determined them to be printer's scrap now that he has them in hand. They are nifty little "cards"...and quite intriguing that something like that shows up this late in the game.
Re: E100 white background?
Given the the number of hardcore PCL collectors out there, I doubt that these slipped past any of them. If they truly were a new type, you have seen prices go through the roof.
