The current season
I ran the sim for the season. I'm going to leave you all in suspense until I get a web host for the stats, but here are the basics of the season so far:
recapping the divisions:
AL
Boston Beaneaters
Boston Red Stockings
Oppie Dildocks
Joe Schlabotniks
NL
Riddler's Medevil BBC
Brooklyn Bridegrooms
Minnesota Dreamers
Nebraska Wahoos
In one division, we had a team run away with a 17 game margin. In the other division, there was a 3 way tie for first on the final day of the season and needed a one game playoff for the 2 teams that won that day.
In the championship series, one team jumped out to a 3-0 lead but took all 7 games to finally seal the deal.

Mark,
I think that was the best use of the to date.
Now we need to find an appropriate reply for this one.

Re: The current season
Is this the "official" 2009 season? Or are we planning to draft additional teams to compete in the season?

Re: The current season
This is "the season". Any teams drafted from this point on wouldn't stand much of a chance. Dan's Nebraska team would comparable to what would be gotten with the extended draft with exception of the likes of Old Pete and maybe one or two others.
Once I get my web hosting problems resolved, I'll post the results. Obviously, the only known for certain is that the Wahoos did not win their division

How refreshing to know that the Wahoos did not beat all of us:
NL
Riddler's Medevil BBC
Brooklyn Bridegrooms
Minnesota Dreamers
Nebraska Wahoos
But the question also is - did the Wahoos beat any of us?

The team is ready to go, and there are no conflicts with existing selections for the current season.

Re: The current season
Is there any way of getting those sim results posted this weekend? Kind of anti-climactic to not see results this long after the draft has finished. No biggie though.
I wouldn't have any issues with Gil's 19th century team (posted above) being included in a second run of the sim. Nice team by the way Gil.

Re: The current season
Anyone have suggestions for a free web host so I can post the results? I have yahoo/geocities, so something other than that would be nice.

OK, I gave in and posted the season on Geocities even though I hate using that site.

Re: The current season
Well, I gotta admit that I thought I'd be in last place just because of my hitters, but I sure didn't expect Bob Gibson, Dazzy Vance and Grover Alexander all to have HUGE ERA's. That just doesn't seem right.
Thanks for running this again Jay. It was fun. Perhaps next year the Wahoos will have no Nebraskans on the team?

Re: The current season
My pitching was a bit of a dissapointment this year. I thought my starting rotation of C. Mathewson, C. Young, and D. Dean would have been more powerful.

My pitchers must have rebelled. John Ward pitched 63 innings. The season is officially under protest.

Re: The current season
Your team has Ward listed as a ss with 299 at bats. He helped out with pitching, as needed, but you gave no indication that you expected more than that:
Rotation:
Maddux
Waddell
Joss
Seaver
5th with no off Days - Walsh
Pen order
Marshall
Sutter
Rivera
or did you want him to not pitch at all?

Re: The current season
Dan, you had a winning record against the Dreamers If Todd could have beaten up on you like everyone else, he would have been in the title game instead of Ben

I guess utility means throw them in where ever possible. 63 inning.
I want a redo. If not I will come over and do this to you Jay.

Re: The current season
I'd be curious enough to want to see a re-do.
I'd like to see the BD/OD team do it again with - I don't know what they have.
Larkin & Morgan up the middle - two years in a row - why?
Arguably the worst fielding team in either league, and easiest to steal against.
They keep Kevin Brown, who did good for the BD team, and he continues to perform well; they pick up Martinez who was 7-10 in the first season, and he wins 20 games!
Mays and Bonds had better seasons than the first run, but they were a bit low the first time. I guess that Martinez was a bit off the first time too.
The magic goes on, but does it happen every time?
Edited to add:
Monte Ward went 8-23 for me the first season, so you got off easy with a 1-3 record.
The first season I had Lefty O'Doul on my bench, but the Sim did not consider him as a potential pitcher. Ummmm, I guess that is not really a complaint as much as it is an observation.

Re: The current season
I ran 10 seasons (154 game season) on the sim to see how things balanced out over the long haul.
The Oppie Dildocks won their division 9 of 10 times. The Red Stockings managed to slip in one title with a mere 84 games won. The lowesting winning total in either division other than that was 88 wins.
The other division's titles were split between the Riddlers and the Dreams. They shared one title while the Dreams won 5 outright and the Riddlers winning the other 4.
The Bridgrooms never got closer to winning a title than 9 games out of first. A remarkable fact given that they won their division in a playoff in the first run of the sim and took the championship series to 7 games. I didn't run any playoff games this time around and did not track any player stats.
The Wahoos, while obviously not a contender, did manage to not have the worst record all ten seasons. The Schlobotniks took that honor one year when they won 58 and the Wahoos managed their best season with 62 wins. The two of them tied for worst record one season when both managed only 59 wins each.
The Dildocks managed the only 100 win season with the Riddlers coming in with 99 and 97 win seasons.
Average wins per team over the ten seasons
Riddlers Medevil BBC...89.6
Oppie Dildocks............89.0
Minnesota Dreams.......88.4
Boston Beaneaters.......80.0
Brooklyn Bridegrooms..74.2
Boston Red Stockings..72.8
Joe Schlobotniks.........67.3
Nebraska Wahoos........54.7

Re: The current season
Thank you Jay, that was quite insightful (and rather pleasing that my post 19th century guys can perform competitively) Next we will see if I can improve upon the first season with only 19th century players.
But talking about managing with thinking from left field, congrats to the Schlobotniks who did not give up on 19th century pitchers (like almost everyone else did), and cashed in! The JS's first season with Young in the rotation saw a 7-17 performance from him. Yet they held on and invited him back for a second season and gained a 19-9 record.
Also congrats to the other LF thinking mgrs. who brought new blood to our rosters. I nominate the following who had no first season appearances, as Full Count ROY candidates:
AL
___
Jesse Orosco, OD, 5-3...4.52...85g...4sv
Ryne Sandberg, BRS .238/.298/.420...22HRs for a second baseman!
NL
___
Gaylord Perry, MD, 10-11...4.15...5cg...1 shutout
Sam Crawford, NW, .255/.309/.420...22 triples (go figure )
Derek Jeter, MD, .276/.331/.385
Matty McIntyre, NW, .251/.323/.348
Any other nominations? Any votes?
