Desert Island

Ok, it's winter, it's cold and it's time to play Desert Island.

If you were stranded on a desert island with portable DVD player with unlimited battery life, which three movies would you want with you? No trilogies or multiple series of movies counting as one pick. If you want all 3 Lord of the Ring movies, those are the only 3 you get.

Pulp Fiction- I've seen this movie several hundred time, maybe pushing 500. I used to watch it almost every night at the gaming and comic store I used to own.

Fight Club- love all the little hidden things in the background of the movie. I hate Brad Pitt as an actor. When this movie came out, he showed lots of promise, but pretty much every role he has done since this movie has been a reprisal of Tyler Durden.

Batman: Dark Knight- Heath Ledger's performance is worth it alone. Jack Nicholson was a natural for this role when he took and it and failed with it miserably. Ledger showed Jack how this role is supposed to be played. Snatch was a consideration but 2 Brad Pitt movies would be a bit much.

I seriously considered taking the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I prefer some variety even though LOTR blows away Star Wars for best movie series.

1) Schindler's list---long movie but worth it.

2) Deer Hunter--one of the greatest movies i have ever seen.

3) Fargo--great, great acting.

1. The Goonies - Favorite of all time...my brother and I watched it twice a day one summer
2. Man on Fire - I just saw this movie again, and it's good.
3. The Motorcycle Diaries - A great movie, and I can practice my espaNol!

1. Cast Away - for hope and inspiration
2. History of the World Part I - because I would need to laugh (Alternate choice: Fletch)
3. Italian Job - a pretty good action movie with Charlize Theron (not the best action movie on the planet, but I needed to combine a good action movie with a hot looking woman).

Realistically, Cast Away probably wouldn't make the cut, but it got the nod due to the scenario. Without the desert island scenario, I would try to find a better action movie (the Dark Knight would be in the running) and a better, hot looking actress movie to replace the Italian Job.

1. The Last Detail - Obscure Jack Nicholson Movie, with Randy Quaid. Jack and another guy take Randy Quaid to the Brig in Portsmith and show him a good time along the way. I was in the Navy in the era protrayed in the Movie. Great Movie , Check it out.
2. Slingblade - Can't get enough of that Movie, watch it every chance I get.
3. Saving Private Ryan, Pulp Fiction, Platoon, In Harm's Way

1. The Shining - my favorite film ever since the first time I watched it. Masterful directing job by Kubrick, and Nicholson/Duvall are at their best. Scared the living crap out of me the first time I watched it (about age 13).

2. Papillon - Great adventure story about a French convict who escaped numerous prisons in South America and survived years of solitary confinement under the absolute worst conditions. One of Dustin Hoffman's first films. Steve McQueen plays the lead role.

3. Princess Mononoke - Another amazing adventure story, directed by Miyazaki, Japan's answer to Walt Disney.

I also really like a few of the ones already mentioned (Pulp Fiction, Fargo, Motorcycle Diaries).

I think if I was stranded alone on a desert island, all 3 would have to be porn

can it be a laptop w/ unlimited battery life, an external hard drive and att&t wifi hotspot? that sounds like a pretty good vacation

if not besides the R++ rated stuff, my 3 dvds are:

1. boiler room--i pop this movie in once in awhile and still enjoy it...abc
2. fight club--i've watched this movie the most, norton's voice will forever be engrained in my head for this role..."i am jack's medulla oblongata"
3. hero--jet li's movie...just a beautiful movie imo.

p.s. i've watched most of the movies mentioned here...i'll try to imdb and catch up on the ones i think would fit my enjoyment criterias (make me laugh, cry, or think).

I was going to do the music version of this in a few weeks, so you guys jumped the gun

Nia Long looked great in that movie.

1) Monty Python's in search of the holy Grail. Never laugh watching the movie but always laugh thinking about it.

2) Lord of the Rings, not many movies I watched that when it got do I said "damn that was Good"

3) Star Wars Episode 3: I have to have one Stars Wars movie and I think this is the best.

If I could have a TV series it would defiantely be Band of Brothers.

Ben, I haven't watched The Shining in a long time. I don't remember Duvall being in the Movie...What part did he play? I remember Scat Man Caruthers being in the Movie, though
