Auction Houses during Recession Empty Auction Houses during Recession

Post by TheBig6 Mon Dec 08, 2008 6:53 pm

If we have a prolonged recession which it looks like we have.
With more and more people less likely to offer up their cards for sale in this Environment
What measures will auction houses take to try an secure Inventory for their auctions.
Most are already offering a 0% Commision rate for consigners.
Will they Lower Buyer Premiums (Not Likely)
Will they raise Buyer Premiums and offer Consigners a portion of BP's
Will they Keep BP's the same and offer Consigners a portion of BP's.
Or, None of the Above

Auction Houses during Recession Empty None of the....

Post by Square_Frame_Ramly Mon Dec 08, 2008 7:25 pm

None of the above....i think most sellers are seeing that Ebay is not the way to go. Auction houses are still getting great stuff to sell and they are noticing better prices than Ebay. The only problem is, i think there are too many auctions by Goodwin, Mastro and a few others....seems to be one every few months. Should 4 each year, and 2 by REA.

I will be giving a few cards to auction houses myself next year.

With Mastro offering 0% Commision rate on any card worth 1K or better and Goodwin I know for sure doesn't charge Consignment Commision, it seems the times are a changing.

I don't think I would consign a high 4 figure card or better without trying to get a piece of the BP.

I got a 5% rate on a consignment to Mastro. Way better than I had expected and a ton better than I'd have gotten after eBay/Paypal took their huge cut.

True enough. 85k for the AUT T210 Jackson (before juice) is jaw dropping too. Some very strong prices mixed in with some bargains.

Here is the card I'm kicking myself for not pursuing. Love the detail on that D381 Evers portrait shot, and the price was right.

Yes, but I traded with Jeff Prizner, so you know I paid full value.
