SGC 30 going for PSA 2.5
I'm think about submitting a card to PSA with the help from a board member who has an account.
Originally this card was graded GAI 2.5 then it was crossed over to SGC30. As you may know SGC doesn't have a grade for 2.5 (SGC35), so I was informed by SGC the card could only be graded 2 (30) even though the card (IMO) is much stronger then the average PSA2 ~ SGC30.
Do you think this card would receive a PSA 2.5 if submitted raw?

That is a really nice looking card. From viewing the scan, it seems like the only flaw besides corner wear is the crease in the bottom right corner. IMO that makes it a G-VG card. I'm probably not the best guy to ask about PSA grades, but a 2.5 doesn't seem too unrealistic on that Ruth.
Hi Brad...
Here is a grading standard from PSA web site....the more i think about, i do believe it may get a PSA 2.5 or possible 3....
VG 3: Very Good.

VG 3: Very Good.
- A PSA VG 3 card reveals some rounding of the corners, though not
extreme. Some surface wear will be apparent, along with possible light
scuffing or light scratches. Focus may be somewhat off-register and
edges may exhibit noticeable wear. Much, but not all, of the card's
original gloss will be lost. Borders may be somewhat yellowed and/or
discolored. A crease may be visible. Printing defects are possible.
Slight stain may show on obverse and wax staining on reverse may be
more prominent. Centering must be 90/10 or better on the front and
back

You must be thinking about selling it, otherwise I would just leave in the better looking SGC slab.

No I'm not selling the card at least not now.
I'll agree SGC does present much better, but I believe this Ruth deserves to be graded accurately 2.5 if not ~ 3.

submit it 3 times and you will get 3 different results.

The PSA half grade results seem to be that if the card has a flaw that causes it to grade lower, but has much nicer centering, it stands a good shot at a .5 bump. You can make the case for that card being a 3, but I doubt PSA would give it a 2.5 due to the centering.
Brad....
Here is my M116 McQuillan "Cinnci" PSA 2 i just pickup and also posted in August new pickups...It resembles Your SGC 30 in many ways. Corners are a bit rounded and mine has a small "wrinkle" at top left corner. I call it a wrinkle though some may call it a crease, in any event, i think this deserves a 2.5 also.

i think the m116 has a better chance at a bump. the ruth have 1 heavy crease plus another crease on top. with 1 crease i can see bump 2 probably not. i've seen some lax sgc grading recently though. i am bringing my gai ruth this weekend to the hp show and maybe try to cross it over for the first time.
