Anson, low grade.

Anson, low grade.
I have faced the prospect of obtaining an unaltered Mayo Delahanty at a price well below $500., and I have barely survived that ordeal. But I did emerge victorious, with my prize! I feel a bit like Indiana Jones, but I did not do this alone.
With the full support of our collective strength, can an individual hope to obtain an unaltered Anson at a similar cost?

I once purchased a Mayo Anson for $500. It looked pretty nice, but the corners had been retouched and there was a crease through the middle. Still a heck of a deal imo. I also had a rough N162 Anson, purchased for nearly the same price around 5-6 years ago.
It'd be a challenge to find any pre-1900 Anson card these days in that price range, Gil. You might get lucky with a beater N284 Buchner Gold Coin, but outside of that you could be searching for quite a while. I'd recommend a nice WG1 Anson, but those can get a bit spendy even in low grades.

Damage = ok
Alteration = ng
n172, or n300 only.
$500. Max.
Can it be done?

N172 - probably not for that cheap unless it's skinned and trimmed.
N300 - If in similar condition to your Delahanty, it's possible.
Both are pretty high demand cards; the stars would have to align for one to become available for $500 or less in today's market. It's possible though! Happy hunting.

Interesting Ben.
If priced equally, which would you prefer?

I'd take any player's card in the n162 set over any of their other cards. The n162 set is one of the all-time great sets.

Jerry: that was the first one I obtained.
And Ben: I am sure that you know how much that n162 Anson wiould cost.
What I am not sure about is why anyone would tie up so much liquidity in a single baseball card.
I guess that they would feel that the amount was not actually "so much".
