T205 Observations

I would agree with that. I forgot about Broadleaf.

One odd observation, I've seen an usually high number of Cobb's with the piedmont 42 back.

I really enjoyed reading this thread - great to see ALL the T205 experts (at least the ones I know) participating in one thread!

Here's what I got out of it, as concise as I could get it. I didn't see any mention of Walsh, Dougherty (Red Sock) or Chase one ear. How do those fit in?

Toughest HOF'er - Joss, then Jimmy Collins (ML'er)
Tough HOF'er - Duffy, Evers - tougher than open Bresnahan and Eddie Collins (Evers-same as Matty, Bender, Speaker, Chance)
Toughest ML'er - Jimmy Collins
Tough Commons - Jacklitsch, Killian, McIntyre, Mullin, Kroh (tough as Evers)
Tough Variations - Latham, Leifield
Overrated - Grant, Suggs
Slightly rare, but not bad - MLers, Collins not too rare
Toughest - Hobby no stats, then Wilhelms
Tough - Moran stray line (not as tough as Hobby, nowhere near)

Toughest Variations

1) Hobby No Stats
2) Wallace (1 Line of 1910)
3) Wilhelm ("suffered")
4) Moran Stray Line
5) Gray (Stats)

Honorable mentions: Shean (Cubs), Barger (Partial), Collins (mouth open) and Hoblitzell (name correct no "Cin.").

There hasn't been any mention of the Matty 37-1 variation. I personally don't consider this anymore than a brand back variation since all Cycle Matty cards are found with the 37-1 error. The same is true for the Wilhelm "suffered" variation. All Piedmont fact 25 backs are found with "suffered".

If you think that a variation/error that is only found on back without it being corrected on that back, then you also have to believe that each tobacco brand on the back is a legitimate variation. The exception to this is the Hobby no stats. It is only found with a Hassan back but the back is radically different from all others. It isn't just a typo that lasted for one print run.

The really annoying thing with the sudden interest in the Matty variation that I knew about it in the early 80s, as did other collectors and no one cared because all Cycle backs were like that.

Yawn....

I know this place isn't the liveliest in the world, but I was under the impressions some T205 folks participated here.

Your observations are pretty close but I'd take the Wilhelm off the list since I don't consider it, or the Matty variations true variations. I've seen fewer Gray with stats than the Wallace 1 line. But then I haven't paid that close attention to either since I haven't been pursuing the set for some time now.

Seriously? All 4 of them are as tough as Joss?

Maybe not Walsh. I do see that one a lot. Even more than Kirb White.

What's a T205?

Pete, that's the set that has that Hoblitzel no stat card you want so badly.

Ha...that is a card i will never own...unless i find one at the more common price!
