Re: September Pick-ups
nice brian...I always thought Hans was swinging a bat in this pose...but it looks like he's got a mitt on his hand?!?! Was I wrong all along?
I'm still waiting for my pickup.

Nope... you are right. The original photo shows him swinging a bat. (I'll try to find it and post it.) The bat looks huge in the photo and is editted out of the image for this and the similarly fronted cards like Collins McCarthy, etc.

Yes it does and my statement stands as is. 40 inch bats weren't unusual either. If I remember correctly, Ernie Lombardie swung the biggest bat ever at something like 42 inches and 48 ounces.

Brian, that is a monster Ju Ju Drum, love seeing rarities like that in high such nice shape. The container is cool too.
Re: September Pick-ups
I pick up cabinets like this from time to time. I'm thinking the kid is probably 13 or 14 and the equipment dates the cabinet to the late 1910s.
Not sure why 3 fingertips of his glove are cut off.

Great cabinet photo. Interesting about the glove, I'll take a couple stabs at theories: (1) his favorite pitcher was Mordecai 3-finger Brown? (2) time-travelling MMA fighter, (3) probable child's mitt he grew out of. Regardless, that's taking mend don't spend to a new level.

Pete, I don't personally like the type-collecting idea as I think it is a hodge-podge of different cards, designs and images. However, if it is to be done, then sticking to one player as Brian has clearly is best. Back collecting is interesting, too, but I think it goes without saying that right now I will not be starting any new collections anytime soon! But it is fun (and a bit envious ) to see what other people pick up.

Re: September Pick-ups
thx to lee for this. never had an n162 so didn't realize how thick the card stock was. they made some strong cards in the 19th century.
