Who'd you rather have ... George Burns or George Burns?

Nearly a century before we were plagued with a glut of Alex Gonzaleseses the WW1 era had a glut of players named George Burns.

There was George J. Burns who played mostly for McGraw's New York Giants, had 3 post-season appearances (winning in '21).

There was also George H. Burns who bounced around the league mostly with Cleveland, Detroit, and Philly AL. He was the 1926 AL MVP and was on two series winners ('20 Indians and '29 As).

If you could only have one on your team, who would it be?

No contest. George J. A very good player during his day. When I was tinkering with a comprehensive power/speed number his named appeared quite often as league leader and ranked well for his career.

It's close but I'd have to go with George J because of his speed and because he played a more demanding defensive position.

Either one was older than the Oreo cookie...
