Another game of..."IS IT TRIMMED?"
I totally owe this one to BEN...thanks so much Ben for steering me towards this hidden gem...without him I never ever would have seen this!!!
This is definitely one of the nicest E94's I own...and only my third violet of of about 32 E94's! So I got it in the mail today...and the scan from ebay was very small...I saw the diamond cut...and it's very similar in size to other E94's...but does it look trimmed to you guys? If not what do y'all think it should grade? I'd hope vg/ex?!?!

I'm going to go with "not trimmed" and VG/EX.

I'll second the not trimmed, but I'm going with vg. They, (SGC) have been brutal lately!!

Agreed!
Definitely lots of these E94s have a diamond cut. Pete's has one edge that looks more tilted than the opposite one, but I've seeen some of those on E94s too.
As a visual comparison, here is my diamond cut Speaker which graded SGC 40 last year:

my vote is trimmed...cut on left and right side seems to be different. check the edge on the left vs the right side, for dirt-wear and cut texture. that should tell the story.
nice purple otherwise should be a 50

Nice card and I would vote not trimmed and grading a 40

Hell if I can tell...I looked at it yesterday with my dental loupes at work...and the color of ll of the edges is consistent...kinda dirty. Now I'm looking at it with my illuminated magnifier and comparing it to other E94's and the sizes of the cards are very variable....it's bigger than some...smaller than others...I also have another card with a diamond cut on only one side...so I'm guessing the Grant...and maybe Byrne were on the ends. I just don't trust SGC right now...and especially if I sent in 10-15 E94's for grading at once?????

Glad I could help, Pete. Don't listen to party pooper Quan. Looks like a really nice complete card. Very nice surface and color. I'm going with the crowd and saying NOT trimmed, SGC 40.
Congrats on the pickup! Let us know how the grading turns out.

Re: Another game of..."IS IT TRIMMED?"
ok i'll change my mind because of the left border flaking...had some reservation because the top left edge seems to just fall off a cliff. depending on how deep the flake is i'd say 30 or 40.
if they're keepers i wouldn't waste the money on grading. unlike the grant your other e94s don't need the protection, you can't beat them up anymore

Thanks a lot Quan...I feel a whole lot better now!!!! If this card gets a 30...flake or no flake......I'll be done with SGC...and most likely all grading services!

Additionally...since the majority of my e94's are sgc graded...I'd like them all to be for continuity and potentially eventual sale.
After selling some cards I've held for almost 20 years...nothing is off limits these as far as possibly selling in the future...I'm realizing I can't have everything I want!

I am kind of with Quan here, hate to be a party pooper, but the upper left hand corner jumped up at me with the initial look. The back scan does not look as suspicious. Certainly does have a good chance of getting graded. Nice overall card.

I had a feeling you'd think so, Lee! I'm a little suspicious as well...but under magnification...color looks the same as the other side...I just don't know!

Dental loupes? Illuminated magnifier? Nice toys at work, eh?
I typically only buy slabbed cards so pardon my ignorance but what is "flaking"? How does it effect the grade/value of a card?

What are you guys suspicious of, that the corner has been rebuilt?
I highly doubt it. Judging by the looks of the auction (mixed with t cards, seller didn't know what he had), the card is likely fresh to market. Nothing wrong with the top left corner boys, it's just honest wear. A little flaking towards the tip, which is really common on e94's and e98s and their especially fragile surfaces. Remember tbob's lament about the surface falling off a e94 (Crawford I think) when he busted it out of a graded slab?

Not that the corner was rebuilt...that it may be trimmed.

Re: Another game of..."IS IT TRIMMED?"
Well for the reasons stated above, I'd be shocked if that was the case.
If only all E94's could look that nice

It does look a little strange, but I seen stranger and they have been fine.
Maybe you can take some enamel and fill in the chips, I would love to see a photo of the card in a dental chair with you and an assistant working on it. "Periodontal probe please!"

And after reading SGC's grading policies...I won't be shocked if Eddie Grant got an sgc 30...due to the flaking on the border...that'd be a travesty.

sounds like a FC bet is in order...will it be a 30, 40, or A? if pete is correct he gets to keep his card, if a member guesses right his t205 lowdy becomes a rotating trophy prize for the NCAA march madness bracket winner
reminds me of way back when i had to ship ben a beater e90-1 marquard because i lost a hockey bet to him (don't propbet a canadian about hockey)

Hey Quan...you're pretty damn funny...and generous when it comes to my babies!!!!! That's a T207 Lowdy...right...the only Lowdy...no t205 exists...I know you knew that!!!!
I couldn't possibly put up Lowdy as a rotating prize for any college sanctioned sports in light of the latest penn state scandal...and my disdain for corporate abuse/wrecklessness.
A bet might be fun as to the grade though. Do you have any newfangled autographed glossies to contribute?!?!
