Re: April Pickups
Thank you, John! All have back damage (scrap book pulls), but I could give a hoot with fronts like these.
4 less HOF to get
Thanks to johnnycrab (Peter) for the trade of Maranville and Frisch.

Great cards everyone...a few more..
Another Murphy making now 21 diff. ones, also a neat no red ink and Bl350 from Dan. Also a cool 4 card panel T212 from the show from Leon.
Went ahead and had my entire T206 back collection graded by (SGC) all 40+ brands and other oddballs all graded VG-EX-ExMt was pretty happy.
Cheers,
John

Re: April Pickups
John- amazing cards!!! Did you ask SGC to specifically grade the cards back first like that?

Hi John,
Very cool cards there! Regarding the no red ink Wagner, I'm a bit surprised to see pink in his cheeks - I guess there was a separate (lighter) color applied? Or was it just the last bit of red ink, but not enough to color the heavy red areas?

Re: April Pickups
Thanks, yes I did ask SGC to flip them for my full T206 Back Set, and my Murphy Back run.
They were very nice to do so when I explained why, however I dont think they want to make a habit of it unless you're dropping off full back runs etc. or really tough backs.
All in all the guys at SGC Bob, Scott, Joe all great guys.
Blair, I agree it's odd, who knows it could have been something on the plate, or perhaps this card and it's red stripe were a different layer of printing that got missed.
Cheers,
John

Re: April Pickups
Well I've been trying to find a nice Heilmann since 2003. I came close in 2006ish, but it was an uncommon type that just didn't fit what I was collecting. This fits perfectly with the SGC 50 Sisler I've got in my collection. I got this in the Bagger's Auction tonight, for much less than I was expecting, so I'm very happy. Glad to finally have him off my want list.

Wow the registration on the front of the Rossman is crazy! Looks almost 3-D...

Re: April Pickups
Hmmmm....I wonder if throwing on a pair 3-D glasses would make that card pop out?
I know someone what's to try it. DO IT!

Re: April Pickups
LOL, the 1909 glasses were in another lot I lost them. According to legend if you hold it up at the noon day sun and wear the glasses it tells you why Wagner was pulled and where they are....but the glasses went for $40 with juice and I'm not dropping that kind of coin.

Re: April Pickups
Good ole McGraw. I felt better about this card until I saw some of the stellar specimens on this thread. T206head: I'd love to see the back of that Eddie Collins / Philadelphia Caramel.
I'd also love to see a photoshopped version of this card, in which it's his middle finger sticking up. That would better suit his personality. It could be called "McGraw Communicates With the American League, circa 1904."

He's right it's all in how you scan them, most scanners have button on the side called "Scanner Magic" here are the same T206's with scanner magic turned off....

Re: April Pickups
I admit it: I went nuts.
That's the beauty of starting a large set: Lots like this still make financial sense. I actually wasn't going to do PSA on this set; I was gonna make it all SGC, but this was hard to resist. Plus, there was a Cycle back and a bunch of my favorite, Polar Bears. Too much - had to give in.

I'd have to classify those pickups as "Very Good", Lucas.

Beautiful cards for the grade, and there is absolutley nothing wrong with going PSA for T206's.

Re: April Pickups
jbonie: Thanks! Nice to be reassured, because I felt some trepidation about PSA grading on tobacco's. But I'm with you: This lot looked nice, carefully chosen, well-centered. I took the dive. No regrets at all.
BigGuy219: Checked out your SGC scans. WOW, do you have some nice cards in there. Particularly those Mathewson's. And that '53 Bowman Pee Wee - I am officially envious. I have it, too, but it's not graded and not that clean. In my humble opinion, that card is one of the 10 or 20 greatest baseball cards ever produced: Iconic set (according to Beckett), iconic franchise (before the move), iconic player (who doesn't love Pee Wee Reese? - one of the best baseball names ever), action shot, and atypical orientation (landscape rather than portrait). And such a classically simple design, kinda like '57 Topps. I tell ya: I have a bunch of sets I'm about to sell off, but I'm truly torn about giving up my '53B's and my '57T's. For post-war sets, they are hard to beat.
Kudos, sir.

Re: April Pickups
You can always crack them out of PSA holders or cross them to SGC. No laws against that.

At last year's National I cracked my M110 Mathewson out of a PSA holder to SGC. Then I walked over to the PSA booth to turn in the old flip so they could remove it from the pop report, but saw Joe Orlando and asked him to sign my book.
