Why not a Perfect Game?

Why not a Perfect Game? Empty Why not a Perfect Game?

Post by bowlingshoeguy Thu Oct 01, 2009 9:25 pm

I have found it curious that a player that pitches a no-hitter with the only base runners being errors, that it is not considered a perfect game. Heck, the guy actually got more guys out in these games than what is considered a perfect game. The pitcher just made up for something that was not his fault, gets 28 outs and doesn't get the same credit as a guy who gets 27 outs.

That's my beef of the day,

Sort like the pitcher that doesn't give up any hits but they won't credit him with a no hitter if he loses the game. A no hitter is a no hitter. Since when did it mean you had to win too? I also liked having Harvey Haddix having asteric (sp) for his "perfect" game

How about coming in as a relief pitcher after the starter walked the first batter.
Retiring that walked guy by having him caught stealing.
Then retiring the next 26 batters faced, and not being credited with a perfecto?
Faced 26, Retired 27.
That's not good enuff?

Why not a Perfect Game? Empty Respectful disagreement

Pitchers are certainly the ones to bask in the glory of perfect games or no-hitters, but the other eight defensive players can and often do have a tremendous impact on whether a hurler attains such an achievement. It's the beauty of baseball: the individual match-ups within the context of a team competition. There's no way to separate the two. One cannot award Jonathan Sanchez a perfecto because of Chase Headley's error unless he or she is willing to deny or to diminish Mark Buehrle's perfect game because of the amazingly clutch 9th inning catch of Dewayne Wise.
