Need opinions on a purchase
I have always wanted a 1963 pete rose rookie. Was thinking about buying one graded NM by one of the major grading companies. I am primarily buying because I want one but if I do want to sell down the line dont want to loose on it either. Any opinion if this is worth my money and effort just look into something more vintage
thanks

is the key concept here.
So, it is worth your money and effort. But you state that you do not want to lose money on it either.
Opinions on the upside and downside potential of this card will vary; and if you really want to minimize risk, minimize the investment. By purchasing a card in the absolutely lowest grade which you can still enjoy.
And rest assured that when it comes time to sell, there will be another like yourself who has wanted one, but doesn't want to risk much loss.

If you want it Kyle, go for it. I have cards in my collection that many people would say, why? But I like them and in my collection to stay.
If you want a graded one buy an SGC they tend to be a bit cheaper on modern cards and of course they look much nicer in their holder.

Heck,
Chipper Jones is hitting .425 with 9 HRs so far. He's doin' more than just chip shots.
And there are groups of collectors who mainly focus on individual modern players, and try to get every card of that player (like what Brad Green does with Lefty Grove - except modern players have lots and lots of cards). One such group that I am associated with is shown below. I do not follow their primary collecting interests tho.
