Is there anybody out there?
I haven't posted here in years but just came back to see what was going on and see no posts in months. So I ask...Is there anybody out there?

11 views in a day means there are some of you out there. Post hello or anything. Let's get this board back to life. Why not right? Let's hear from you.

Hello!
Wow, I check in after what seems like an eternity away to find there's still life on this forum AND an HPV vaccine banner ad at the top of the page just for me. How lucky am I?

Re: Is there anybody out there?
Hi Adam! Thanks for posting a reply and letting me know there is someone else willing to post still. Like you I was away for a long time and came back to see what was going on. It looked pretty slow but I figured I'd say hi to whoever was still looking at the board.
What do you collect mainly?

Re: Is there anybody out there?
Over the last 30 years I've collected everything from Old Judges to the shiniest of shiny refractors, but over the last year, I've cut my collecting way down. I've been working on the very tough 1967 Topps Venezuelan MLB set. I'm currently at 115/150. I also collect Topps Vault items like final negatives, match print photos, proofs, etc. for all four of the major sports with a focus on Boston teams and players from my childhood like Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, and Eric Davis. I also occasionally pick up recent cards of guys like David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Pedro Martinez, and Mookie Betts. For non-sports I mostly collect Nu-Jell, Papoose gum, and Frostick animal cards. 1940's-50's General Electric EMD locomotive spec cards, as well as 1950's Brach's Candy railroad cards. And I just purchased a complete set of the 1970's-80's green background/black lettering version of Wacky Wax Dinosaurs stickers.

I also have a small, but quickly growing fossil collection.

Re: Is there anybody out there?
Sounds like we were fans of some of the same players when we were kids. I collect Eric Davis still today. Not a ton of stuff or super actively, but I have my Davis cards/items and add to it now and then.
I'm mostly pre-1980 and Prewar. I collect vintage sets and some prewar sets, but mostly just prewar cards that I like. I collected as a kid and gave it up in the 90's then picked it up again at the end of the 90's when I was close to graduating college. Have been in it ever since then.
Good to meet you.
Anyone else out there want to share?

Re: Is there anybody out there?
I'm still around but only the check in once awhile since the board had come to a stand still. I guess now I need to check in daily. You guys are out of control
Re: Is there anybody out there?
Jay,
Nice to see you're still around man. I was shocked to see the stagnant board when I checked back in. So I wanted to see if anyone would respond. Have you been collecting all these years or no?

Re: Is there anybody out there?
Not too much. The BBQ sauce business had my focus. I sold that two and half years ago. Back into board games big time. Played in the US Catan champinships a couple of years ago. The other major even in my life was the disected aorta that almost killed me. Mortality rate is over 80% and mine occurred on the arch between the heart and valve with has a 99.9% mortality rate. I was lucky in that it happened at home and lived 5 minutes from one of the best vascular hospital in the Midwest.
Re: Is there anybody out there?
Damn Jay. Glad to hear you beat the odds and made it through that. Was it hard to decide to sell off your collection?
Re: Is there anybody out there?
Not at all. I've reached the point after acquiring the Thorpe, that I have owned or held in my hand just about every significant card in the hobby and acquiring more cards was not giving me any satisfaction. Besides, I've sold off my collection once before, kept my childhood cards. This time, almost everything went, including the childhood cards. I decided to sell them because my son has no interest in them.
Re: Is there anybody out there?
Hey guys, I'm still around but have been inactive in collecting for a few years now.
I will be at this year's national in Cleveland though. Will be bringing some cards with me. Hit me up if you want to meet at the show or at the Indians game (I'm going Aug 3rd vs. LAA).

Hey Ben! I wondered what ever happened to you man. Glad to see you still check this board from time to time. Unfortunately I can't make the National this year so I'll miss you there. Would've definitely met up though. Do you still have your collection or are you out too?

Still have a good chunk of my collection....4 E107 HOFers and a Chief Bender type collection. I'll be bringing everything with the to the national to hopefully do some wheeling and dealing. Unfortunately I don't have my imageevent website still up and running, but I'll post a few pics right here.
Re: Is there anybody out there?
I agree with Jay, very nice cards Ben. When is the last time you picked up something new?
Re: Is there anybody out there?

I still lurk, keeping an eye on the rowdy crowd here, making sure no one gets out of line.

Hey Elliot - yes I was there! But just for the first day and a half. I didn't buy much, but did manage to pull off an big trade with a well known collector.
The Bender W600 hasn't hit the auction block........yet. I'll probably hold it for the time being as a trade chip.
Hoping to be able to make it to Chicago for the 2019 National. Maybe I'll see you there
