Tell Me Your Favorite Obscure Track!!!
Okay, it seems that I've scared everyone away here with my protest thread. Look, folks, nothing to be afraid of! It is only me.
We need a participation thread, so here it what I would like to do - tell me your favorite music track. But don't post Madonna's "Like A Virgin" or something we have already probably heard of. What is your favorite musical track that people here might not have heard before?
Manu Chao is super-popular in Rodrigues. He is not well-known here in the states, mainly because he is a Socialist who has aligned himself with the Zapatistas. He is also active in the alter-globalisation movement. Very cool!
So what is your favorite (somewhat) obscure track???

It's okay, we're the only remaining posters, so I guess we have to work overtime. P.S., Where'd Q go?
Here's another, produced by Manu Chao, it's a blind Malian couple, and I love this song because it's about peace, love and integrity.

No wonder he's been having cardiac problems. Anyways, sorry for ruining your message board. I do like those 80's tracks, however.

I'll go with one of my favorite new-wave bands, The Lyres. They never seemed to get out of that late 70's Boston scene, ala The Cars. The Lyres front-man Jeff Conolly must be hard to work with as the band has never had a stable line-up. Here's one of my faves "Help You Ann", yes it's a song about a troubled young man in love with a prostitute but damn that tremolo is awesome....

As a kid didn't know these guys were considered punk. I just loved the guitar riff

Television, great band. I never made it to CBGB's before it closed, but the 1980? live album with early tracks from Television, Talking Heads, and Roxy Music is a great one to own. Local musician, formerly of the Screaming Trees, Gary Lee Conner has eaten too many mushrooms. His new band Microdot Gnome released this slice of garage psychedelia a couple years ago. Just put down the bong Gary and noone will get hurt...

OMG, I'm in the crowd somewhere. Also got to see The Talking Heads on different night.

Bad Brains and the Talking Heads at CBGB's, that must have been awesome!!!!! 100% pure energy, and more volume please. Great taste in music, guys.

That Lyres track is sick, I also like the Bad Brains Jay posted. Early 80's CBGB - wish I was more than six years old at that time! Also a big Television fan, my favorite track from them is Guiding Light. Not popular, but it always struck me.
Here is one on the more feminine side - and french, of course.

I played soccer with this musician here in Boston - great local folk musician. I especially like track #2 - "each tiny thing".

Science fiction and surf music go together like peanut butter and jelly. Perhaps no one does it better than members of Man or Astroman? Supposedly from outer space they are actually from that mecca of great surf music, Alabama?

Representin' for the prog and 'krautrock' lovers with a lesser-known early Genesis gem and a 1976 EP from a band most people have never heard of.

Great Agitation Free EP, have not heard that in years. Classic prog album, don't believe they played a single note before 5 minutes of atmospherics. Lucas, are you a fan of Can and Tangerine Dream also?
That was an incredible line-up Adam. He just up'd the ante... Here's a controversial favorite; original v. remake:
First, the original Return of the Rat by 80's Portland punk band, The Wipers:
Versus, the challenger Return of the Rat by Nirvana (they covered three Wipers songs but this is their best effort):
Frankly I'd gladly listen to any road trip soundtrack offered here.

Love Tangerine Dream. The soundtrack to the movie Thief is classic. Bought it when the movie came out. Still own it.

I'm digging Return of the Rat and Ride the Sky, good stuff fellas.
Here's a french track I like a lot - it starts out slow, but then gets crazy.

Oh yeah! Iron Claw, Lucifer's Friend, Tangerine D...now we're gettin' into my wheelhouse. I love that Lucifer album, but I actually prefer "Banquet," which came out in '74. They had softened by then, but it was good stuff. And I've always loved the "Thief" soundtrack. And the movie itself, actually.
Never heard Damien Saez before. I like how neuvo-punky that gets in the second half.
