T206 Titus

I have always found the T206 Titus card interesting in the fact it is the only T206 player with facial hair. This seems to bump the price a little and right now they really seem strong. I have always had good success reselling Tiitus cards.

Is the Titus considered tougher than a normal common?

Does anyone have any idea why he is the only player with facial hair?

I do know that he was the last player to sport any facial hair until Charlie Finley had all the Oakland A's players grow mustaches in the 1971 or 72 season. I had heard why there was a prohibition on facial hair, but I forget what it was.

I saw a photo of the 1903 Giants and Van haltren really stood out with that 19th century stache. He looked from a different era for sure.

There certainly is a big social difference regarding facial hair from the 19th Century sets (where MOST players had mustaches) and the T206 set (where only Titus has a mustache).

Personally, I don't think the Titus card is rarer than any other T206 - just collected more due to the mustache.

I read where Wally Schang (I believe 1914) was the last player to have facial hair prior to 1972 when Reggie Jackson sported a moustache. 60 years of no facial hair, amazing.

That is one of my favorite t206 cards.Was it required that they had no facial hair in the contract?.
