Re: Billy Herman ID help
Looks like a 1936 S & S Game card with the "action" sides removed. Good luck on the upcoming auction!

Re: Billy Herman ID help
Probably the same photo and similar design as an S&S card, but it's actually much scarcer-- a 1936 E-Unc Candy card. There's a Gehringer on ebay now:

I think Todd nailed it...I initially thought it was/looked like ss card...but I'd call it the e-unc instead.

here's another one (not mine)
note the wide border on top is incompatible with the actual S&S cards:

Edited to add: I see where the two stray line segments of this Young--one on each side--seem to line up with where the S&S cards divide information for their game, which could mean these were some sort of proofs or pre-production samples. Just speculating.

Todd, Is the above card an S & S? The black lines on the side may be the give away that they are S & S cards. I tried visually lining up the Herman I have with a full S & S card and they seem to line up.

Lee, see my edit, which I was typing as you were. The Young card is advertised by a net54er as a 1936 E-Unc.

Re: Billy Herman ID help
The horizontal hash on the right side of the Herman seems to indicate a dividing line for the cards "action" segments. It's in the right place when compared to complete S&S listed above. The Floyd Young also has these same (including something written down the right side). I was under the impression e-unc candy did not have them. This is interesting, and I would like to know is there a size difference?

The S&S cards have a printed green or tan(?) back. The E-Unc would be plain cardboard and white or grey. The E-Unc's are on cardboard stock. Not sure about the S&S's, but would expect them to be on more of a playing card stock...

Awesome Glenv! Thanks Todd. I must plead ignorance on this one, I have never seen either card in person. My mistake.

Lee,
Behind the scenes question. Since taking over, you've had to get IDs a few times.
Does that imply people just send you a box of stuff and say, "Here. Sell this!" and not tell you what it is?
The sausage making part of the industry is always interesting to me.

Chris,
This consignor was very good about ID ing most of his stuff, he mostly coliected in the 50s and 60s with only 2 30s items he wasn't sure about. But yes, I have had consignors basically just dump stuff on me with no ID of the items.
By the way, Pete was very good about IDing his items.
