Re: 2013 National, who's going?
Sorry for the lack of follow up after starting this thread. Spent the past 4 days in CA with new grandson. Sucked going from 50 degrees to minus 7 degrees here in MN.
Anyway, the wife and I will be at the Aloft again. Great hotel and as Pete pointed out, don't go through the convention for room prices. You get rooms cheaper through other sites or even directly from the hotel.
As for what to do with the SO, I'm lucky. She tolerates going along and walking the show with me so not sure what else to do with one that isn't trooper.
I'll look into the ballgame and see if I can group discount for tickets.

Yikes! Negative seven degrees? That is frigid. I have seen that in Western Mass once or twice, but Boston rarely gets below zero. Stay warm!
I used to go down to Fla for a few days each winter as a respite from the cold, but I stopped, as I realized that it made me so miserable when I returned that it is better to just stay up north.

too funny E.
If me and Tim head to the National, I will probably be there 3 days. If my wife comes. I will probably be there 1 day then sight seeing all over Chicago somewhere. I have been married 24 years and wont be running with the unmarried guys.
Not sure what will happen, my wife will lmk

My daughter wants to go to Lollapalooza, but it looks like it is already sold out all three days. She still hasn't forgiven me for the last time the National was in Chicago and I passed up free tix to see McCartney. That's OK though--I haven't forgiven myself either.

Re: 2013 National, who's going?
We still need to decide on a place to meet for dinner on Saturday night.
Re: 2013 National, who's going?
I will be there as usual. Looking forward to seeing Lee and Jay at the same time
I would guess the Net54 dinner is Friday night, but don't know for sure.

Re: 2013 National, who's going?
So I had the most bizarre dream last night.
I dreamt that the get together was held at Chuck E. Cheese, but I was very late. You all left shortly after my arrival and piled into a Ford Focus.
I also remember trying to consign a massive box of raw E107s to Lee, so I could bid in a live auction at the National. But, I ended up missing the live auction and it sold for thousands less than I was prepared to go.
I have no idea what this means. I hardly ever remember my dreams. I felt compelled to share though. Just bizarre.

So, you had a massive box of raw E107s and you didn't even contact me??? That's it. No more Chuck E. Cheese tokens for you.

Re: 2013 National, who's going?
I hope you still plan on consigning those e107s to Sterling.
I sure hope Chuck E Cheese doesn't show up for our dinner. I could go for another place that has a variety of sausages again. They were delicious!
It sounds like a fair number of us will be at the Aloft (haven't booked yet but soon), somewhere around there would be cool.

Hi Jay,
Yes - I really enjoyed our chat in the lounge there! I'm sorry to have to miss this.
I have another trip abroad this year that was pre-paid, and I thought I could do the National on top of that one, but it turns out I can't take that much vacation time.

Re: 2013 National, who's going?
Booked at the Aloft for Saturday night. Was planning on coming in on Friday but stopping along the way to see a friend. Chicago is a nice road trip from the Twin Cities.
Re: 2013 National, who's going?
I have booked the Aloft for Friday through Sunday. Now to book the flight. It sounds like there are a few restaurants in the area now. I still think a baseball game get together would be cool.

Re: 2013 National, who's going?
Since we will only be there one day the only time we can do any sort of get together is a dinner Saturday night. If anyone has a suggestion for good dinner place, speak up. We did Giordano's last time. Would like to do something different. I've heard good things about Smoque BBQ and am always up trying a good Q joint. It's not to far away but not sure if the aloft shuttle will go there or not. Guess I'll give them a call and find out. They more than happy to shuttle all of us to Giordano's last time.
Re: 2013 National, who's going?
I talked to a lady at Aloft and she said there was 7 restaurants in walking distance and Aloft has a shuttle that goes to the convention center.

There are places close by, but nothing very good. At least I don't think so.
