The only cards to make the grade this time around were the M101-4/5 Ruth and the e107 Matty.

Personally, I thought the Lowdermilk card was a no brainer. It has everything you want in a card. Rare/key card from the set, the rarest back and it's from one of the legendary sets in the hobby.

The fall of the 51 Bowman Mantle was simply amazing. It went from 2 votes short to flat out rejection.

The Kelley card baffles me. I like it better than the n162 Anson that is already in and the only other card of Kelley's I like better than the n162 is the FBH/G&B pose.

I think the Lowdy suffered from the fact that he was a poor player.

I prefer the n162 Anson to the Kelly, but N162's in general are kind of grainy. The Kelly is a classic card, but I prefer this one:

But I guess I'm biased Very Happy

When I started learning about the hobby in 1980 the big name vintage sets were t205, t206, t207 and 1933 Goudey.

It is interesting to see what the top cards were back then and what they are now. In 1980 it was t206 Wagner, Plank, Magie, 1933 Goudey Lajoie, e90-1 Mitchell, t207 Miller, Lewis, Lowdermilk, 1952 Topps Mantle.

Today the top cards are probably t206 Wagner and Plank, t210 Jackson, Balt News Ruth, n172 OJ Anson in unform, Peck & Snyder Cincinnati Red Stockings and 1952 Mantle.

The t207s and the e90-1 Mitchell don't even get a sniff at the new list and the Lajoie card doesn't have anywhere near the cache it had 30 years ago.

I know the Lowdermilk is an amazing rarity, but to be honest if you laid it out with 10 other t207s and covered up the name plate on all of them I am not sure I could pick it out on the first try.

Jay...agreed...to me...the Lowdy is as recognizable as any other hobby rarity...having started collecting in the late 70's.
