Auction season
Everyone gearing up the mad rush of auctions that come out this time of year? I am already scanning auctions for that 10th card I want to add to my collection but so far I haven't seen anything that I want to have.
Re: Auction season
Is it that time? Arent we months away?

Re: Auction season
There are always multiple auctions year round (other than eBay, of course).
Stupid question if I may ask: How do collectors (with a modest budget) keep tract, plan their bidding strategy, etc,... when there are 3 or 4 auctions ending about the same time and say multiple similar cards are in each catalog that they want ?

I've never had that problem. But then again, I don't buy a lot from the major auctions and I've been pretty focused on what I want so I've never had to deal with multiple auctions having the same card I am looking for. My next purchase will be from REA. Mainly because I have a lot cards consigned to them and they are more than likely going to have one of the cards I am looking for.
Re: Auction season
I would say place your opening bids very early if you must bid on a bunch of cards.
But I think it's better to choose one card you really, really want and be selective. When that card shows up, the moment you see it and you get that instant feeling like you really want it, that is the card for you, go for it and if you don't get it there will always be another.

Does anyone know the dates when the Robert Edward Auctions is taking place?

Not sure of the exact dates but it is some time in May this year. I have yet to get the proofs for my lots in the auction, so I'm guessing they are not that close to getting the catalogue ready yet.
Re: Auction season
Is there a consolidated list of auctions? My (vintage) collecting experience is mostly in ebay and card shows. The big auctions seem intimidating to a smaller collector like myself. Should someone on a $100 a month collecting budget stay away from these auctions. I guess the root of my question is, does the seller or the buyer have the advantage in these auctions? Or is it truly fair?

You can do ebay and Sterling auctions. b-lauctions, clean sweep... those would be best for you. Stay away from the big boys for now...

I agree, try out some of the smaller auction houses (I have purchased from Sterling, B & L and Clean Sweeps), deals can be found for less than you monthly budget. Good luck!

Baggers is another nice choice. Do remember when you are bidding that you need to add the Buyer premium to your bid price plus the shipping charges.
If your new to auctions start with Sterling and Baggers, both are top notch and do not over charge for shipping which can be a shock from some auction houses. I personally steer clear of Clean Sweep.
Have fun,
Lee
