Re: M116's
I collect the M116 set and still need about 60 or so.
Like T207, once you get going you'll find there's tons of intriguing little tidbits that hook you on the set and keep you interested.
I agree with Mark that Coveleskie is one of the hardest to find as are many of the minor leaguers. It's hard to say which cards are the absolute hardest since there are not many collectors going for the set like say T206.
Here's a few basics for the set:
As many of you know, cards were sent away for which is why they are found in such nice condition still. They are neat because they were collected, probably similar to the way I collect them now.
There are only 9 minor leaguers (one PCL!) in the set which is nice subset.
All portraits and three different backs with many of the popular hofers of the day. 300 backs are known as the tougher cards.
The most popular players of the time were issued in the first several series and are easier to find.
It's always been common knowledge that the later series' (21-24 etc) were harder to find.
Tim's research is much more in depth than anything in the past and shows that only some cards were reissued with different backs later in the print run. Same fronts, but harder to find.
I've seen some cards that have no color. Probably just a printing thing.
Two cards are hand drawn. Lapp and Strunk
All of the managers are pictured in suits.
For hofers, speaker, hooper, wood, and flick were issued towards the back end of the print run and are tougher to find. Interest might have died out a bit by then.
Out of the 3 different team variations, the Bates and McConnell are in a different world as far as rarity. The McQuillan is a lot easier to find with the other two maybe 1 or 2 in existence imo.
Anyways, it's definitely one of my favorite sets!
Mark and others have helped me a great deal finding cards that I need to get closer to completion.
I'd love to find envelopes too!
Happy collecting.
Rob

Re: M116's

Thanks for the info Rob.
Quick question: do you have a list of the 9 minor league players in the set? Which is the PCL player? Does that one sell for a significant premium?
Re: M116's
Sure Ben.
They are:
Coveleskie (AA League)
Foster (Rochester)
Frill (Jersey City)
Hughes (Rochester)
Krueger (Sacramento PCL)
Mitchell (Rochester)
O'Hara (Toronto)
Perring (Columbus)
Ray (Western League)
I'd say the Krueger and the rest do get a premium, but the personally I'm always pleasantly surprised at how "cheap" most M116 sell for!

Re: M116's
Well I have no idea about them but the prices for 4's and 5's seem really hig if Mark is sayin he has 7's for $145. What sould one pay for a mid grade set minus the BS millionare cards.
Commons $ ?
HOF $ ?
Minor Leaguers $ ?
thanks guys

Commons in 4's-5's $40-$70
HOF in 4's-5's-$200-$500
Minor Leaguers 4's-5's-$150-$300
Of course it all depends on the player or HOF...There are around 325 cards in the set so only a handful of collectors can expect to complete the set. A friend of mine is 98% finished.
There are 5-6 cards that will be very, very tough to get and they are not HOF. Coveleski, Shean, Amby Mcconnell (chicago), Smokey Joe, Hub Pernoll are only seen for sale every 1-2 years. And forget about getting the Amby Mcconnell (chicago), that will most def be the last card someone needs.
My friend had an Amby in a PSA 7 holder last year and was sold to KO for an amount i will not say (probably won't believe me anyway)

Sooooo, in short, the prices on M116 have come way down and you could easily get them for 50-60% off 2006-2007 prices. I have 14 cards in B/S/T for sale and last i checked my Donnie Bush SGC 7 is listed at $135 which is a steal.

Re: M116's
I've sold a few cards to KO and when he wants cards for his collection he will pay handsomely.
