Help with W514 Babe Ruth
I was considering cracking this card out of the PSA holder and resubmitting it to SCG in hopes of getting a better grade. I was wondering what all of your thoughts are. Do you think that I would get a better grade from SGC or would I get another Authentic. By the looks of the card I would think that I could at least get a SGC 30. Thanks for any input

hmmm...not too sure...I just submitted an eddie cicotte strip i had...which was graded A by PSA...had really wide, sharp borders and requested # grade only. I probably won't know for a few weeks...but...yours has pretty nice borders. That chunk missing is my main concern...although quite small?!

If the risk/reward is attractive, try one submittal.

Not sure if it will get a grade or not but if it does highest would be a 20 with the paper loss.

good point scott...i didn't even notice the paper loss on the reverse...it's probably not worth it...in my opinion.

what's the difference in monetary value between an A and a 1-1.5? it might be worth it. personally i think all hand-cut strip cards should only get As but if the ruth is full-sized i don't see why SGC wouldn't give it a # grade (maybe PSA graded the card when all Ws were only As).
p.s. blair i think yours got an A because of how uneven the cuts were, giving the card "more" of a hand-cut look to it....even though they were all hand cuts
so it shouldn't matter anyways
...hence my feeling all should get #s or As uniformly.

LOL! I went through the same thought process.
FWIW, I thought it was quite an exceptional strip card in that it had very full borders (so full that it has the dotted line on the left, and even encroaches on the card above at top). But I guess that was not the key to the grade? I suppose it reinforces the point that these things are tough to predict.

honestly if there are extra borders nothing's stopping anybody from cutting the 2 uneven edges and resubmit to possibly get an sgc84. if i was collecting these i'd probably prefer an A with those cut lines than a smaller-sized NRMT example.
