Classic scumbag ebay lines. You know it's a fake when.....
1. The seller states "It doesn't say reprint anywhere on the card".
Lets see how many we can get.

My fav. "I'm no expert on these...however"
Re: Classic scumbag ebay lines. You know it's a fake when.....
This thread is destined to be my all time favorite!
I will start off with this response which I got when a seller was a bit vague about the genuineness of his item, and I asked him about it:
"As far as authenticity, short of sending it to PSA you can't say with absolute certainty. I can tell you I have had this card in my collection for the last 5-6 years. I bught it from a reputable dealer whom I have dealt with for other cards. I believe it is authentic. In twenty + years of collecting, I have been fooled a couple of times, but it was very rare. I hope this gives you a feeling one way or the other, because that is really the only way to navigate the whole real/fake issue in card collecting".
And then when pressed for a return policy, guarantee ... something, his response was:
" If I wasn'tbuying a home, this would have stayed in my collection. I'm not being difficult, but I don't know what to look for in the dot matrix you talked about. For that reason, I can't guanantee anything".
So, I wholeheartedly embraced the seller's recommendation, and in order to navigate the whole real/fake issue in card collecting I got a feeling.
And the feeling that I got was that if the seller refuses to guarantee anything, he really isn't standing behind his item. And if he wants no part of the responsibility for the authenticity of his card, why should I absorb that responsibility (especially) sight unseen?

When the last line of the auction reads "God Bless"!
I guess these scumbags think that they look more honest if they use Religion in their listings.

I'll second that
"my husband ran off with his mistress so i am selling off all his cards"
Bogus. If the guy's collection was worth a damn, he'd take it with him, I don't care how hot the mistress.

This one always gets me:
"This is a very valuable Wagner card. It even says on the back that it's worth $25,000."
Duhhh....

Ben, come on, you know you have a valuable card when it states so on the back!
I guess the only people's IQ lower than these sellers are the ones bidding. TBH, I have never felt sorry for the bidders. If they are stupid enough to believe they can get a six figure card, when it is listed correctly on eBay, for a few hundred dollars, they are certainly thinking they are "taking advantage" of the seller (in their minds of course).

"I know nothing about these things, but this card is clean with sharp corners, 60/40 centering, doesn't say reprint anywhere and in excellent condition for it's age. Because I described it accurately, no returns or refunds."

It seems like whenever a seller states that they're selling an item "as is", it's almost always a reprint/fake.
Does it apply in This Case?

Saw this one today... thought it was pretty funny. This persons selling a Rogers Hornsby w514 PSA "A" for $1,999. The best part is in the description about the "sonically-sealed" holder.

Yes, the tamper proof holder is sonic encapsulated but the card clearly says "Roger". Damn w514's often spell the name wrong, Only $20 more to change.

At least with the lacrosse cards (which I collect) you know you're getting an authentic card. Its a niche market and it wouldn't be worth the effort of counterfeiting them.

I love the the reprints which have been creased, wadded up, corners cut off, etc. "Don't know if it is real, but it looks really old!"
