potential HOFers
Do you buy cards based on the perception that the player is going to eventually be in the HOF?

not a hof collector but i wouldn't. if i was a hof collector i'd prolly not buy a few that i thought was undeserving and get a few that i think deserve to be in.

Re: potential HOFers
Not to hijack the thread, but anyone got any good pre-war candidates left to be inducted into the HOF?

Re: potential HOFers
That's exactly what this thread is about.
Some of the top pre-war players not in are Bobby Mathews and Harry Stovey. There are some others I'm leaving out but I am sure others can chime in with those.
Mathews has 298 career wins. Pretty silly to keep the guy out because he is 2 wins short of what is essentially automatic induction. If it was a big deal back then, I'm sure he would have stuck around to get those 2 wins.
Stovey was probably the best power hitter of the 19c.

I picked up a Jimmy Ryan E107 just in case he makes the hall.

Re: potential HOFers
Mathews is not going to make it, just like Mullane won't, nor will Browning and others; all for the same reason: they did not behave as "baseball" wanted. I do not know why Stovey is not in. In addition to Stovey, Caruthers should be in.
Too bad O'Neil, Orr, Joyce and lots of pitchers and others, like Ross Barnes; do not meet the minimum longevity requirement for the Hall, they meet mine (but my Hall is in my mind)
Edited to add: it looks like Stovey deliberately ran afoul of the Reserve Clause (oh no)
