T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps
In another thread the question was posed to me about the scarcity of this set.
First of all I would like to say that you were correct about the big collector his last name is Miller and goes by Millerhouse on ebay, nice guy but if he gets involved with a stamp I don't stand a chance. Andy Becker has also got into them the last few years.
The set kind of fell under the radar until about 4 years ago, since then there have been few for sale and when they are they go for about 4 times what I used to be able to pick them up for.
A number for each card would be really interesting to find out. I think like many issues old time collectors probably have many that have not seen the light of day, but I would be surprised if there were more than 50 of each that still existed. An example of known through forums is the T205 Matty Cycle back, according to threads about the card there is thought to be around 15-20 cards to exist, but I personnally have owned 3 different ones so it would be really surprising if there were any where close to that few since I have been able own 3 without making an effort to own the particular card.
As far as my SGC registry T330-2's all my 40 and aboves are crease free and have no clue why they warrant such a low grade. The 50 Tinker is the niced stamp I have ever seen so I not sure exactly how SGC grade these. (maybe spacktrack can put a little input into the thread on the criteria for there grading of these stamps).
If there is other information that can be added please do so, this is a small universe for this set.

I know that you collect Piedmont Art Stamps from reading some of your previous posts. I have 15 that I've picked up over the last few years. How rare do you think they are? Would you say less than 20 of each? I know that the most I've seen of any player is Cobb. I've kept scans of about 6-7 different Cobbs, but most of the others, I've only seen 1-2 examples.
I remember reading on the other forum that there was a collector who stated he had a good portion of the set. I believe his last name was Miller. What are your thoughts on the set, surviving numbers, etc.
By the way, the ones you have on the SGC registry are very sharp, some of the nicest I have seen. I regret passing on a Mathewson a few years ago at the Philly show. I think it was VG and the dealer was asking approx. $650. Shoulda, woulda, coulda...

Re: T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps
At this point and time I am not sure, but for 25 piedmont stamps you can get an album for the stamps. I have yet to see one of those.
I did find this description on an auction, but can't believe it is totally true. I would think that the stamps had some kind of straight edge border prior to perforation.

Re: T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps
Lee,
Do you know how close Millerhouse is to completion? If my memory serves correct, I believe he stated that he was around 75% completion. If that's true, I really don't feel as though that can be achieved today, unless a large hoard comes on the market, or a collector decides to sell their collection. And as I stated earlier Lee, yours are some of the nicest I have seen. They are very tough to find in nice shape. Do you think Mr. Miller would be willing to post some of his collection?
As to number of specimens which exist for any single player, I guess 50 is a good guess. As I stated in my initial post, I thought maybe less than 20, but I guess you never know if there are major collections which contain large groupings of these. I just rarely see them. To be honest, I see them about as infrequently as Ju Ju drums.
I spoke with an advanced T332 collector last night and he stated that there was only one known complete set of the Helmar stamps to exist, and that was part of the Copeland collection. He stated that he and another collector were only 1-2 stamps away from completion as well. Now Helmars are much more available than the Piemonts, and if only 1 known complete set is out there, I doubt a complete set of Piedmonts exist. But I guess you never know.
I just recently found out that Andy was collecting these, maybe he can post some of his.
Here are some more:

And another one in transit:

Re: T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps
it's nice to see the stamps get some love
i've collected these for a few years now. very seldom do they come up for auction. and prices have escalated as lee stated. i can compare the set with s74 (with back) which is not an easy set, but the stamps are much much tougher to find.
btw, millerhouse is not Mr Miller.....that's just his login. his first name is dan, and i believe that he is beyond 75% completion.
i do not know of a full set. i think the checklist may still be incomplete, with fred beck having been added in 2008.
i've always assumed these were issued in cigarette packs along with the other piedmont stamps (non-baseball).

I sure can and sorry about that. I still have Walter in my Walter collection. It is funny how Walter and 1 of my Baltimore guys who I acquired years ago both have some weird silver tape on back.

scan of Beck Stamp...
Thinking of getting SGC to grade this. From what i have found out, this is the only Fred Beck T330-2 known to exist.

Re: T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps
Hi Mark, Dan Gantt has pointed out that he also owns a Beck, so there is at least one more but obviously not many of them out there. Also, I would get the stamp graded for the fact they are so fragile, but I would not expect a grade over 30 and it may get a 20 from my past experiences.
Nice pick up, where did you find it?

Thanks Lee...
This Beck and a few others are owned by a friend of mine who wanted me to get them graded and sell. I have a bunch of T201 and this T330-2 stamp along with a beautiful N173 Cabinet of Oliver Tebeau.
All cards will be for sale once i get them back from SGC. Yes, i agree on the Beck...it will probably get a 30.

Re: T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps
i'll post two scans tonight when i get home....sorry for the delay.
there are at least 3 fred becks that i'm aware of:
one is mine
one was auctioned by lew last year
one was just on ebay with a BIN of 500
if dan g. did not get his from lew, that would make 4.

Re: T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps

I've been away from the hobby message boards for a little while but starting to peek in now that Baseball season is underway.
I thought I'd share the small group of stamps that I have. Besides the four Baseball stamps I also have stamps from the Soldiers, Fairy Tales, Types of Nations and Flag series which I see even less than the Baseball stamps.
Mine are in pretty bad shape so those of you who have such nice examples should be very proud of them as they are tough to come by in good shape.
My understanding is that these were distributed in the Cigarette packs just like other cards.

Re: T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps
Thanks for contributing, Scott. I would be great to find out exactly how they were distributed, I still think they some how came like a sheet of stamps with a straight edge and it was tore out, but with a single player. The normal stamps edge tearing is not concistant so I would have to believe that they had some kind of border around the tearing area.
