Re: 1952 topps mantle
going to need larger scans, but from that small scan it doesn't look to promising. Then again, I'm a pessimist when it comes to stuff like this

Looks pretty nice, are you looking to purchase it or is it in your collection?

Re: 1952 topps mantle
hey Lee I bought this along with some other 1950's tv show cards and some old car cards and a few other baseball cards but this was quite a surprise and i know it is heavily reprinted so that is why I have my fingers crossed it is authentic

To me it falls under the too good to be true, but you never know. The best thing you can do is send it into SGC or PSA, even if it is trimmed I would think you should get a few hundred for. If you send it to SGC you can make a note to holder if it does not grade and than it will at least be protected.

well....
one of the ways i learned to find a fake 52' Mantle is....look at the circles in this real Mantle, see how the black frame overlaps the vertical lines just a tad. All real 52' topps Mantle cards have this. Yours does not.

Re: 1952 topps mantle
Actually, I am not ready to say that one is fake. Since the Mantle was double printed there are two different versions of it out there. The one Mark posted is the "messy star" one and it does have the pointed top borders as he said. There are several items that are different on the two prints. A quick summary...
"Messy Stars" card
Printing dot to left of hat bill
Black box around Yankees logo incomplete
On back of card, the stitching arrows in the baseball point to the right
The "t" in right aligns with the "s" in Dimaggio's
Front top border extends
"Neater Stars" card
No print dot
Black box around Yankees logo complete
On back of card, the stitching arrows in the baseball point to the left
The "h" in right aligns with the "s" in Dimaggio's
Front top border does not extend
I'm sure there are others, but those are the one's that I can remember off the top of my head. With that said, his card is the "Neat Stars" version and has all of those items correct. The color is difficult to say on a scan and obviously we cannot judge the card stock from a scan. Suffice it to say that I cannot rule out authenticity at this point.

Picture suffers from helation (fuzziness). This happens when you take a picture of a picture. The blue also looks funky, especially in the upper left corner. Given the track record of other cards you have posted and the condition, I would say fake all the way. If it is real, you just hit the jackpot, get it graded and cash in.

ouch... but at least I don't buy fake cards!

Mike,
That was completely uncalled for. Jeff (Bicem) is a respected member of this forum, provides a lot of insight, and deserves better treatment than that. If that is the kind of behavior that you are going to exhibit, I would suggest you take it elsewhere because that level of immaturity is not welcomed here.

That kind of stuff doesn't fly here. I've contacted Mike about it; any further behavior of that sort will be dealt with appropriately.
Re: 1952 topps mantle
Well, not the kind of loser who hangs out on forums, but definitely the kind of loser who doesn't know that 1952 is not Pre-War...stop wasting your money on counterfeit cards and buy a history book.
I find the focus on the obscenity in the message to Jeff obscures the real problem with this poster. He believes that the true contributing members of this community - the ones he wants to soak for free opinions and authentication - are a bunch of losers.
I vote you off the island...

I vote an extended chance to join in the fun. The Bicem response could be construed as not in accordance with the bedside manner typically offered to apparent newbies by this board.
But nothing justifies a clear attempt at abusiveness by Mike. That is clearly immature, and poorly thought out.

Re: 1952 topps mantle
True, I may have been a little harsh but I was also stating a fact, every single post by Mike thus far has been showing fake cards and asking if they were real. My concern was that he may at some point attempt to sell off a fake card to someone who responds that they think the card might be real.
That being said, I really don't care if the guy stays or goes.

I would also have to agree with that statement and until Mike can offer something other than reprints and nonvintage cards I believe it is time to back off.
