Opinions wanted

What are your thoughts on this Goudey Ruth? Do the boarders look OK (especially left/right)? Legit? Trimmed? Thanks in advance.

card looks narrow and my guess is that the right side was trimmed. If the left is the original size, then right side would have been fat. The wear on the left side doesn't match the wear on the right.

Agreed about the total width left to right. If you look at the total width of another Goudey, you will see that the amount of the border looks a little shy. I don't have a Ruth 144 to show you for comparison, but you can see the comparison with this Dean.

Ruth's to compare.....

Well, after looking at the one you posted (a PSA 5) and comparing it with the exemplar Ruth 144 PSA 5 cards posted, it doesn't look that far off. The original card in question does look much narrower than a couple of the other examples, but it may have been cut that way in the factory. I doubt that PSA would blow it that many times or that an authentic card would be trimmed so similarly and exactly. From what I have seen in other sets (T-206 for example), the trimmed edges also tend to show non-linear variations. Having said all that, I am inclined to think that the card is legit and factory cut a bit narrow.

Well the Ruth I brought up does have the appropriate measurements: 2-3/8 x 2-7/8

My first impression upon viewing the scan was that the card is fine, Eric. The corner/edge wear is consistent all the way around, showing none of the typical warning signs of a trimmed card (no wavy edges or bat eared corners). If it does in fact measure up correctly, then I don't think you have anything to worry about.
