I may detest the Yankees but you have got to love this classy move by Jeter and pity the adults that are trying to take the ball.

I saw this...and I have seen similar incidences numerous times at the ballpark. Your brother Lee is quite adept at giving balls to kids at games as we always seem to get free balls.

On a different note another dramatacized online article.

Great move by Jeter, perhaps his best assist this season.

The Astros gave Jeter a custom pair of cowboy boots, a beautiful Stetson, and the retirement gift of all golf clubs, yet I hear people b****ing about them. What were they supposed to do, have Nolan Ryan kowtow at Jeter's feet? Sick of NY centric baseball and hope with the retirement of the last great Yankee (sorry AROID) it ends.

personally I don't like this "gift giving" trend that started with Mariano. most players in the past typically have not announced they are retiring at the end of the coming season...they just decide to retire after a shitty season...or injury...or lack of contract...so to me this whole announcing your retirement ahead of time is a new phenomenon.

I am sure Bud loves it because it drives ticket sales. I don't like it either. It makes the player seem like a needy media whore.

The story has evolved...now the greedy adult is a "horrible person" for wanting a souvenir!!!! You've gotta love the internets!
