For me, these players would have gotten votes:

Raines
Bonds
Maddux
Glavine
Clemens
Piazza
Morris
Martinez
Schilling
Biggio

Great class after 2013's debacle; Maddux, Glavine, and the Big Hurt, all worthy Hall of Famers IMO.

Just two votes shy for Biggio. Martinez percentage drops from 36% to 25% (2012-14).

I really thought Morris was going to get in, especially after Rice was inducted in his last-year of eligibility. Now, up to the Veterans Committee to do what should have been done years ago.

Connection to PED's continues to take its' toll.

I like reasoning for doing it. His ballot was a better representation that what most submitted.

we agree to disagree on morris, otherwise jay's list is solid. i would put mussina in before morris. i think trammell should also get more love. i like lebatard's giving his vote away, better use than ken gurnick who voted for morris and left the other 9 spots blank.

the selection process definitely need a reboot. too many agendas and personal interests that don't serve the important issue...deserving players getting shut out because of those agendas.

Seems I'm in the minority on this one. I was upset that a writer would have such little regard for a Hall of Fame vote, and am pleased the Association took action.

My pet peeve is the disregard for Morris. What the hell does a pitcher have to do? The guy's resume is longer than my leg. And Maddux not getting 100% is a joke. In fact, that no one has ever gotten 100% is laughable. Can anyone explain this phenomenon to me? I just can't grasp why there are voters who say to themselves, "Well, everyone else is gonna vote for this guy, so I'm gonna use my vote elsewhere." That's a ridiculous way to view your job. Your job is to vote for the most deserving candidates, period. You don't vote based on what you think others are gonna do, or on the assumption that you'll have other opportunities to vote for a certain player.

But hey, Joe Gordon winning MVP in '42 over Ted Williams forever invalidates the choices of these media guys for me. To heck with 'em. I'm good with this year's choices, particularly Glavine. I always admired his workman-like quality. He and ole Stretch Randy were the two most recent 300-game winners, and I doubt we'll see another for quite some time.

The reason they won't give 100% to anyone is that they think that since Ruth didn't get 100% then no one should. Only problem is, voting rules different then.

The HOF voting needs a major overhaul. One next year's ballot there will be 12 players worthy of votes. There shouldn't be any limit on how many you can vote for.

disagree on this one ty. lots of these so-called righteous writers have little regard for their votes...like voting for jacque jones and armando benitez. are you kidding me? some arbitrarily just throw out the whole ped era, like those 15 years didn't exist. some of these voters don't even cover baseball anymore! like condoleezza rice being on the CFB selecting committee, but at least i know why she's there instead of some of these BBWAA writers. baseball is old and archaic and always slow to change, but at the very least the votes should not be anonymous so we can maybe mock their stupidity and shame them into giving up their votes.

I agree Quan, all BBWAA members should fully disclose their votes, and be able to defend them. Saw a ballot for JT Snow this year, just ridiculous. I was looking for a list of BBWAA members to share with the board, and could only find a partial list of 2013 balloting (125 ballots). You're right, many "honorary" members:

The vote is often arbitrary, vindictive, and sanctimonious. Show me an election that is not. The system often makes as much sense as the electoral college, but the privilege to vote should be respected.

If Edgar Martinez doesn't get in eventually, then I will be relegating the baseball HOF to the same joke status as the NFL without Ray Guy and Rock N Roll without KISS.
