First week
Here are the stats for the first week. Check them and make sure the computer ran your team properly and that line ups are correct

Re: First week
well, just found the first mistake. I forgot to change the divisional set up so the first week will get rerun since the schedule will be totally different. Please check your lineups etc so that I can make any changes needed there.
Re: First week
damn it i gotta lose my 6-2 start? guess that was a good spring training, but we all know teams that tear up spring training usually suck once the season starts!

The SIM has my lineup correct. Brutal start for my hitters, that sure looks like spring training!

Re: First week
Nice surprise, Brown and Foster performing well on the mound. Mackey & Munson do not seem to be playing 50/50 (believe Munson has played every game). Not on my team, but how does Cal Ripken get injured in the first week?

Re: First week
Hopefully Tim Keefe will buck up his ideas a bit and start pitching a little better once the season starts. Same goes for Sparky Lyle and Hoerner, one bad outing does not a season make, but they were pretty bad!!!

Re: First week
Not sure how the sim handles players that are not platooned but I think over the course of a season it should be about 50-50. I have players in this situation set for "games started". Which means the sim is supposed to look at how many games a player has started and then start the appropriate player that is comes to the percentages set. If they are platooned, then obviously it's a righty/lefty match up.
Re: First week
I'm sure it will work out. Only a little confused that Munson throws right/bats right, Mackey throws right/bats both. IMO Mackey should be getting more AB's, my own fault. But how can I complain about a 5-2 start? Is that official or spring training?

Re: First week
I am going to assume everyone else is OK with their line ups. I'll go ahead and create a new schedule and rerun the first week.
Re: First week
Before we start, here is just an idea... maybe it is a terrible one, but I thought I'd post it anyways... what if we simmed one week out each week, starting on opening day in April, so that it took the entire baseball season to run the sim? I know this sounds ridiculous, but it might make it more suspenseful...
Also, another idea would be to run the sim day by day, so that everyone is checking their box score every day to see their results. It could be really cool, but then I understand it might be a lot of work for Jay. So I want to be respectful of his time, but this is just a brainstorm that it could be cool because then we might be a bit more wrapped up in the results if we are studying the box scores.
Plus, we have the entire year to run the sim since we only do the league once a year, so what's the rush? It is just an idea but I think it would be interesting to try...

ha, looks like mr. "i don't have time and won't be too heavily invested" has come around.
...but i think it might be too much work, everybody tinkering their lineups and making changes on a daily basis? that doesn't sound like fun at all.

Hehehe.
Well, of course, tinkering with the lineups is optional, people could be as involved as they want to. I just feel like maybe slowing down the league might make it more enjoyable???

Re: First week
yes, tinkering the lineups and changing strat for our own teams is fun. i'm just looking at it from jay's pov...him getting 6-7 different requests to make changes and then running the sim every day sounds like tedious work.
we should start up our own little fantasy league for the upcoming year if that's the plan. i don't know if there'll be enough interest as i've found prewar guys don't really follow the modern game, but for me i love it (never been in a fantasy league though)

I agree with the nameless wonder up above.
I haven't watched a baseball game in years.
Even the World Series is the epitome of tedium.
Just give me a nice anecdote about the 1895 Temple Cup, and you've got me.

Well, you guys could be right, it is a lot to ask and it would take a long time.
Per a fantasy league, I did that for ten years... yeesh, do I want to get back into it? Maybe, who knows?
Btw, if you guys are really into sim games, I am liking Top Eleven Be a Football Manager. You play it off of Facebook app and it is really fun. Just finishing my second season. Check it out...

Re: First week
My biggest issue is that I am not sure how many more years we will be able to do this with the current sim. I have to run it on my old computer, which is crotchety at best, because it will not operate in the Windows 7 environment. That computer takes about 10 minutes to boot up and makes a lot of noise, so I can't leave it running all the time. When it dies, this ritual may die unless we can find an alternative. Diamond Mind no longer supports the game outside of it's web-based stuff Things like the Negro Leaguers and historical parks were created by fans and not the company.

That is a real shame, yes it seems like Diamond Mind is a thing of the past. Almost. The only other sim I can think of is ootp, which is a very interesting game but not quite the same dynamic, plus everyone would have to buy the software. Hell, I would even have to buy the hardware, right now I only have a chromebook that does web-based apps.
