Miscut T206s with name at top and bottom

Post by deadballfreak on Fri Jan 18, 2013 2:35 am

I'm sure this has been discussed here before. I was getting ready to list some mostly low grade T206s on ebay and noticed I had a couple of miscuts in the bunch. I think I've owned a few before, but not something I collect. Anyway the McCormick has the same name on top and bottom, but the McGinley has none other than Speaker at the top. I don't believe I ever owned one with different names. Do they command much of a premium? Interesting in that they might shed some light on how the sheets were printed. I'll probably list them anyway. I collect too much already.

The double name has slowed down recently but your McGinley with Speaker on top might draw extra interest. make sure you note it in the title.

Good Luck with them,

Lee

The Mcginley will certainly command an exponential premium over an ordinary mcginley!

Nice pair of cards.

I have a little knowledge regarding these because I follow them tangentially. There is a distinction as was noted between double (same) name and two (different) name T206s. The two name T206s are much more difficult and carry a significant premium as Lee and Peter mentioned. There is a thread across the street called "one T206, two names" or something to that effect that would be insightful. They would be very interested in the scans of these cards if they were previously unknown. There was an attempt to recreate the layout of an uncut T206 sheet based upon the information these cards have yielded. There is also a great article on T206resource.com on this very topic.

The McGinley should do quite well because of the HOF name and the fact that the name is clearly discernible. The double name cards do very well when both names are visible in their entirety. You could auction each in the traditional format or use the best offer format and see what comes in. If you don't have too much invested in the two name, I would consider holding on to it because they have a novelty associated with them and they hard to come by.

Personally I would sell them now if they were mine - I don't see the market for these types of cards ever getting better than it is now.

Thanks for the input! I'll go ahead with the McCormick and give some more thought on the McGinley/Speaker.

your McGinley is special, not only does it have a different name at top it is a top tier HOF name. You will be able to name you price pretty much. If you post this across the street you wont have to list it on ebay. You will get bombed with pms asking for it.

Start at 500 or even a bit higher. I don't think you will get much more than 500 though. maybe 750.
