what do i have here??? (other than a baseball)

As i posted a few weeks ago im looking for a nice early reach baseball.... a good friend of mine a "picker" found this and sent it my way. my Question is what is it? is it home made? is it old ? there is no marking on it, is seems just a tiny bit smaller than a new ball and it smells like a moldy basement BAD!!!! thanks for looking BOB
