Ceiling bid vs final price

Post by bowlingshoeguy on Tue May 22, 2012 6:25 am

I was bidding on an auction last night on ebay that I won for $225, I had a ceiling bid of $350. I think that is the highest % between my ceiling and final price. Obviously I was really happy with the win and a card I really wanted to add to my collection.

I know everyone has had some,

i'd have to go back into my snipes to see but i don't remember any lately. most of my bids recently have been competitive enough to be in 2nd place. i did win a $300 card yesterday for 55cents over the underbid.

With my T206's, there's almost never a significant gap between my ceiling and what I win the card for. I've noticed that it's always pretty close (and I end up losing OFTEN, but that's okay). With my 50's stuff, I see a lot more of what you're talking about, and I love when I think a card's gonna cost, say, $50, and I end up getting it for $25. Happened just last night with a Kaline All-Star card from the '59 Topps set, in fact. Those take a lot of the sting out of the Mantle's and Maris' and other big names that you often have to go higher than you wanna go to get.
