I wasn't even aware that REA had recently sold the Merkle ball! It shocks me that it went for roughly $340K less than the Buckner ball. I guess there's no over-estimating the significance of the Red Sox connection. All throughout my collecting history, I have found that Red Sox-related items (as well as Yankees-related items) tend to go for more than market value, even when the individual involved is a 'nobody' (i.e., common).
