OT:What to do with Starting Lineup Figures?

Post by ullmandds on Mon Jan 09, 2012 1:21 pm

Back in 1990-91 when I got back into collecting BB cards after a 8 or so year hiatus after discovering cars and women...and other recreational activities...Starting Lineup figures were hot hot hot...and I got a little caught up in the frenzy.

Now I have 20-30 or so of these figures in a box in my basement...and honestly they are kinda worthless compared to what they were worth back in the early nineties. It seems like you can't even give these away anymore?!?!

WTF do I do with them...I really don't want to throw them away!

I pity my old friend who had thousands of them covering every crevice of his home!!!!

I just donated a bunch of old toys and SLUs to Goodwill. At least you can get a tax write off for the retail value

Yeah...there are a bunch I like too, Jamie...like the SP Honus Wagner I traded a drew bledsoe rookie for...and the Reggie Jackson(member's only) large figure...and the don mattingly rookie...and all of the ny football giants from my younger years.

I'm just trying to purge stuff from my life...and I don't know if I could justify keeping this box!!!

Mona is good at throwing things away. You want me to send her over to help you out?

If you know of a kid who is a baseball fan why don't you donate them to a child. I bet they'd be thrilled!!
Friends, family member, etc.

Tony...I've given away a bunch of them to my coworkers kids...problem is not many kids in these parts are into baseball...let alone any who know or care about players from the early nineties!!!!!

I'm thinking it may be fun to strap joe montana onto a rocket...or firework of some sort and launch him into the stratosphere!

I have a few of these too. When I was younger, I bought Winfield, Viola, and Boggs. Then after the Red Sox won in 2004 my girlfriend's sister got me a David Ortiz one.

Mine are in the original packaging...I don't display them or know what to do with them either question

Cheers,
Blair

Mine are mint...in the original packages as well...as this was the way to "preserve" their value...at the time!!!! Now I'm thinking unless you wait 30-40 yrs for any value to maybe return...the real value is in either playing with them...or destroying/mutilating them...atleast for me!!!!

I don't think we will ever see the day where you can get $400 for a first year Jim Kelley. Fortunately, I sold all of my SLUs (mostly first year football rarities like Kelley) to pay for buying into the comic and gaming store. I don't think a single one sold for less than $100. this was back in 1995

Probably a church would take them. But save your favorite one and keep it for yourself. And for God's sake, open it!!! Very Happy

I'd like to retract my last idea on what to do with these and go with Pete's above instead. Love it!!

How much do you want for the Joe Montana? Is five bucks okay? Who else do you have? Any Yankees?

I like the Jets so I'm allergic and traumatized by Giants material from that era. But if you've got a Don Mattingly rookie, bam... that is good stuff right there.
