I'm guessing it's a buddy posting that question. Sort of the like the guys back in the late 80s when there was very limited internet access and dealers would use buy quotes from the USENET group to justify sell prices. Only thing was, it was their buddies making the buy offers.

What was USENET
Agreed, crazy.
Pardon my ignorance, can you inform me/us of USENET? Sounds techie. What was it? What technology and platform was it on? Was it costly? What were its benefits to users? Just interested in a little history, and I do not mean to hijack the thread. I've been listening to a pod cast show series, and there is mention of a web site that posts bid/ask prices, but apparently little else in the way of information or education. How would USENET compare to that?

USENET is the original internet forum system origianlly developed so scientist could exchange information more easily. It might still be around but with advent of web based forums it has killed it off. I if recall correctly, baseball cards were found under rec.sports.baseball.collectibles. The flame wars on USENET are legendary. This is the arena where Godwin's Law (the mention of Hitler or Nazis in a thread meant it was officially dead) was developed.
I've had my own computer since 1983 and internet access since 1988. Long before there were any pretty pictures to look at.

Thats Funny
My son is a professional card/paper distresser too.Any cards I buy him whether it be Baseball or Pokemon look like that after a few days!
