Porsche Boxster: Am I allowed to go completely non-baseball?
Please advise if I'm not supposed to go this far afield from the general theme of the forum. However, if it's okay, I wanted to see if there are any Porsche owners out there, specifically Boxster owners. I'm fervently shopping for a pre-owned example of this model, preferably a 2000, 2001, or 2003 (best base HP and fuel efficiency, combined with fitting into my price range).
Just wondering if there are any PCA members or general Porsche enthusiasts out there who could throw some tips toward a newbie shopper. Again, I'll keep it baseball-only in the future if this really isn't cool. Thanks.

This is what the bullpen area is for. You can talk about anything you want to here. The only things that will booted/edited are spam posts.
Re: Porsche Boxster: Am I allowed to go completely non-baseball?
Thanks, Jay. I promise, I will post no spam! Unless, of course, it's Monty Python-related.

I so wanted a Porsche last year but settled on a BMW 335i twin turbo convertible. Glad i made Beamer choice but if i had unlimited funds a 2011 911 would have been my choice...

Well, I would hardly call a 335i 'settling,' my friend. You've purchased a damn nice car, there. I assume you're quite happy with that ride. And I know what you mean about unlimited funds; I'd love to splurge and get myself a Cayman, regardless of year, but that level of Porsche owning just isn't within my clutches. Yet.

LOL...A bit impracticable living in CT where the only time i can use it is May-Sept. But yeah, it's a car i hope to keep for 10 years then give it to my son when he goes to college.

Re: Porsche Boxster: Am I allowed to go completely non-baseball?
I never cared for BMWs. Mainly because in the 80s the only model I fit in was the 700 series. And forget being a passenger. The dash was so far forward that I had to sit across the back seat to have any sort of leg room.
I love my shoebox on wheels (Scion xB). When I first saw one I thought it was the ugliest thing on the road and wondered why anyone would buy one. I ended up buying because of the great gas mileage and I had both headroom and legroom. I really want the xA but I would have had to wait 6-9 months to get one with a manual transmission so I opted for the xB which I could get in a week.
I remember the saleslady looking at me strangely when I put the back seats down and then laid down in the back. I told her that when I traveled on the road I wanted to make sure there was a enough room for me to sleep in the back. The thing looks small but there is an incredible amount of room inside. I've had 4 guys almost as big as me in the vehicle at one time and we all had plenty of room.

My wife has a Porsche Cayenne and we love it. It's a wonderful driving experience. One downside is that parts are relatively expensive when doing repairs, but we have only had minor problems.

LOL....my first motor bike was a 1979 Motobecane moped i used in 1984. Loved it!!! I am sure that is the way to go Ben with gas prices the way they are. I asked a few locals in St Lucia how much gas was a gallon and they told me $18 US dollars a gallon!!!!

Yeah it's pretty pimpin as far as cubs go. Being good buds with the local moto rental guy paid off I s'pose!
Re: Porsche Boxster: Am I allowed to go completely non-baseball?
I had a Yamahopper back in the late 70s early 80s way before mopeds were cool.

I think my thread has been hijacked! I'm seeing glorified bicycles here. Let's try to get back on track:

Sorry for the long link. Am I the only one who finds ads like this too scary to act on? This woman has a 2007 Boxster for less than $18,000, with very low mileage. That's unheard of. Boxster's of that year and that mileage regularly go for twice as much. To me, this just stinks of trouble. Sure, it seems like a dream come true. I mean, look at the pics: White with the beige leather...the freakin' thing's gorgeous. But why is it so cheap? Was there a terrible accident? Is she trying to screw her husband over (and he later shows up at my house with a gun)? Or is she just desperate for money? This is what you get when you buy from private citizens. It's kinda like someone who goes on ebay and offers up a raw '53 Topps Mantle with no description whatsoever and not enough positive feedback.
As tempting as it is, I just feel like I should run in the other direction.

Imo the only thing nicer than owning a sweet car is not owning a car at all. Of course, it helps to have access to public transportation if you are going to do that. I sold my car after the BP oil spill, and haven't looked back. It's saved me enough money to buy a Sunday Kelly

Nice car! You might also ask if you can bring it to a dealer to check out, it might run a couple hundred but if there is something major it can be spendy!
Here's my old Bajaj that looks like a Vespa, sold it last fall and picked up a new project that is a bit more reliable, a 1980 Vespa P125x.
