Re: 1914 Cracker Jack collection find
CJs are a little like Old Judge cards in that a lot of collectors are more worried about how the card actually looks rather than what the technical grade is because of the staining.

Re: 1914 Cracker Jack collection find
A 2 on that Matty seems a bit harsh, there's a couple light corner creases, but the staining on that guy is pretty minimal. Like Jay and Pete said, people will be buying the card and not the grade.
Heck, I'm guessing it will nearly sell for a 3 grade because people will be looking to crack it out and resubmit!

The edges appear to be warped in the scans - that might justify the grade and I doubt it would regrade differently. Nice eye appeal regardless.

What about the envelope?
Hi, great find. Was the envelope the cards were in from the company or Chicago? Curious. Thanks, Mike

Re: 1914 Cracker Jack collection find
Hi Mike, Unfortunately I did not pay much attention to the envelope. I do remember that it had a postmark from the 1920’s, and was hand written with a fountain pen. I am not sure from who or where it was mailed from. I have mixed it in a huge box of old envelopes. If I find it I will let you know what i find out.
Thanks

That would be interesting to know about the envelope, I took it for granted it was just a newer envelope that the cards were put into.

a 2 for the matty is harsh...but it'll go for 2.5 money or more anyways.

Re: 1914 Cracker Jack collection find
I'm new to this forum- If you consigned the cards to Mile High, why aren't they listed in the September 19th auction like you said? because I'm really interested in the Cobb...

That's not their major auction - just "extra innings", some spare stuff. Their major fall auction starts Oct 1st. It should be in there.

I wouldn't worry about current prices. All the real action happens on the last day and in the overtime bidding.

Re: 1914 Cracker Jack collection find
I bid on the Ty Cobb and it looks like I got outbid. I think it's already pretty high, but I hope it goes for a little bit more! I don't know about the other ones, but I'd say about $20-25K for the Matty would be a fair price. Good luck!

Re: 1914 Cracker Jack collection find
Hello all, yes I see the Cobbs went up today. I too hope to see it sells for a little more. $25K on the Matty would be fantastic!
I would be happy with any outcome at this point, but really this is already more than I could hope for.

Hidden Treasures Cracker Jacks
Yes hidden treasures are still out there. I have heard of things like this happening to others, but never in my wildest dreams did I think it would happen to me. I have been hunting for hidden treasures at estate sales and garrage sales for a few years before I came across the Cracker Jacks. I have found a few old toys that sold for a pretty penny, but nothing even close to the CJ’s. Now I am really focused and determined to find another valuable vintage card. even though I probobly will never do so again, but I will keep trying.
The CJ card’s auction ends tonight!!!
The suspense is killing us.
Thanks guys for your help and advise.

By my math, high $20sK for the works including BP (pushing $30K). Matty just over $18K. Congrats!
